Who's going to see Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen?

I hated the first movie, because it trampled all over my childhood and was generally bad. However, the trailers for ROTF have suckered me back into the fold. I figure the damage is already done and a sequel can only improve things.

Apparently, the movie reveals something about the Primes legend and involves the Matrix of Leadership. Also, Optimus Prime combines with Jetfire at some point. I hated the idea at first, but then I learned Prime simply wears Jetfire like armor, and doesn't become a new Autobot--he's still Prime, just with thrusters. Also, it's a cool nod to the original cartoon, when Jetfire (Skyfire, at the time) lifts Prime up into space to destroy a satellite.

Well, anybody else excited? I'll be seeing the move in IMAX on Wednesday night.

Is it going to have a bunch of stupid distracting shit with some boy and his crush that pisses me off when I just want to see giant robots?

Well, they say the Transfomers are treated more like main characters this time, although Sam still figures heavily. Optimus Prime appears to loom pretty large.

I might. I'd be more likely to if it was 45 minutes shorter. Two and a half hours is way too long for this type of movie.

I was completely bored in the first film, will probably be bored in the sequel. Still, I'll see it because I'll see just about any summer blockbuster.

^ Same. It's Michael Bay. What can you expect? I love Bad Boys II, though.

I think it depends. Are you familiar with the original Transformers concept or watch the original animated movie from the 80's? The Transformers are supposed to be characters with diverse and complex personalities; humans were just background objects. The first live action movie portrayed the Transformers like giant Godzilla-like robots from space. If they treat the characters right, a longer movie may be called for.

I did not see the first.
This is basically what I expected though.
I doubt I'll see ROTF.

You should do what I should have done in 2007: stay at home and re-watch the original animated film.

No. But I don't think Michael Bay is either.

That's because BBII didn't attempt to take itself seriously. No "big action" summer blockbuster should.

He claims to have--but I doubt it. He doesn't seem to get what's kept the Transformers popular for so long. This shows in even stupid little things. There's no way the real Optimus Prime would ever take the form of a flame-painted truck. Bay tried to make him badass when he's supposed to be noble. A plain red version of the same truck would have been far more appropriate.
