So they decide to come up with this

Forget Denon, tell that to Roman Abramovich: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worl...submarine.html

My god, he is only 40 y.o. and already all gray.
It is a tough nerve-wracking job to be Kremlin mafia's accountant and banker.

If you are going to spend $5k, the Ayre universal CX-5MP is much much better made and sounding.

You've had a chance to compare both side-by-side?

No, but based on prior Denons the Ayre will slay it.

Hehe. It's a digital disk reader. Nothing more. If it sounds any different from any other than it's a worthless, broken piece of shit. Financially, this one will make much, much more sense when it comes out. Unfortunately, DVD-A and SACD are only likely to be found on "high end" shit now. Not because the codecs are especially hard or expensive to support - my sub-$100 4 year old Samsung DVD player that was indistinguishable from a $3k Meridian CD player in blind level-matched listening does both - but because unfortunately the two sets of codecs could not have been marketed more poorly

The concept of $5K Ayre dvd players and $40K ML pre-amps has always eluded me My local better audio/video dealer used to offer $80K Swiss-made CD player whose kit was the size of Rosie O'Donnell. You could buy a premium sedan with top-notch sound system already built in, for that kind of dough

Most people use the Ayre for music playback. It's hard to convince you of the value of high end electronics unless you are familiar with the improvement in sound they offer. It's just like anything else like a fine wine or a Rubinacci suit. The better stuff is more time consuming to make and involves more expensive parts. The law of diminishing returns kicks in after around $10-20K in component cost so I'm not sure I would go for the $40K preamp even if I had the money. The $10K Audio Research Ref 3 beats all the Levinson preamps I have heard. It's a bit like bespoke shoes...until you have done it and feel the comfort $3K seems like crazy money to spend on a pair of shoes. P.S. I have the Mark Levinson sound system in my Lexus. It's not close to what the Ayre offers.

Get back to us when you understand how analog output circuits and minimum phase filters work.

The AF force is strong in this post.

Were you depressed when AF was gone? Does the irritation offset any amusement you feel towards these posts?

Andre,

Do you have any evidence that high end components don't use better parts or are more time consuming to make?

Better is not more expensive. Often in the audio world, more expensive is worse. For example, using Blackgate caps to bypass power supplies is pretty dumb and makes the circuit perform worse. Better things take longer to design, and sometimes take longer to make. But electronics generally all take the same amount of time to make. Audio design for the most part lacks talent and skill, not money. --Andre
