I have always preferred pleats and cuffs but I recently acquired some fitted coats (think Huntsman) and have been directed toward flat front plain bottom trousers to harmonize with them. So, I am trying to reconcile my natural preference with what might go best with the trimmer Hunstman style cut.

Do you agree that it would be best to get a slimmer, flat front trouser in this case?

I should note, these are going to be worsted and flannel trousers, for work business casual mostly but also some social settings.

It depends more on personal taste and body type. I am slim, so I prefer flat fronts.

Many of the suits that high end retailers are ordering now from our favorite makers are now ordered with flat front. Works great for the younger crowd.

I am not "younger" but have bought several flat fronts lately from Oxxford. They tend to have a bit more room than the flat fronts I have on an Isaia suit or 2 sourced from NM lately.

I just dont care anymore, maybe alot of these style-forum ideals are wearing off of me while i find what really works and what doesnt, and to be quite honest pleats do have there place.

Being a younger guy myself I think I can speak for my group by saying that pleats not even an option. If you are reasonably skinny I think there is no reason to wear pleats. I wouldn't even consider buying a pair. I don't think it is just a trend either. It'll be here to stay.

I am 23, and I pretty much only wear dress pants with pleats. My chinos/khaki pants are flat front though.

I'm 42 and I do the same with my suits but have a mix of plain front and double reverse pleated trousers (khakis).

Please dont speak for me, thanks.

I dont quite understand how your opinion translates to that of everyone in 'our' age group.

Any pair of pants with more than a single pleat and I think of men in their 50's+

I find this discussion a little humerous. Back in the early 1980's when pleats were making a comeback, I was told that they were a younger look and were best worn by thin guys.
