I'd be happy to help - unfortunately, I went by both Conn. Ave. and National Press last night and there was hardly anything left. The only Attolini suit I saw was a tan cotton suit in 38R. I'm guessing some douchebag probably realized that he could make $300-500 per suit by flipping them on eBay and bought the rest of them sometime after kabert's visit but before 6 PM last night. Otherwise, I can't imagine how Attolini suits could sell that fast in DC, even at $999 a pop. I didn't see any DV blazers either, although there were plenty of DV pants and shorts at the Conn. Ave. store.

There also wasn't much left at either store from the BG shipment - a few Borrelli shirts at each store, one or two Charvets at each store. I only saw one Kiton at Conn. Ave. - a blue check in size 17. The National Press store had a few more Kitons, but they were mostly linen sport shirts.

I guess we'd better keep an eye on Ebay.... Anyone been to the Mazza Gallerie store?

I believe he meant the Last Call stores not the regular full price NM stores. I had seen some BG stuffs at the LC stores long time ago.

I think we DC SF'ers should start bribing a FB employee to give us a head's up when a shipment is coming. Maybe we could start tipping for purchases, and let them know the tip would be bigger if we got advance warning. If kabert is right that the shipment came in Tuesday, we could have had our pick that night.

I know in the Boston store they set aside suits and jackets for customers. You should also signup for their mailing list on their site. They will send you emails when this stuff comes in usually a day or two before. FB took out an ad in the Boston Globe and Boston.com advertising this for a few days and even opened up at 8 (earlier than usual) as well.

When the Louis/Sid's/Mario's/Mitchell's/Richard's haul came in about a month ago, it wasn't advertised as thoroughly. Your best bet around here is to flip through the Globe and Metro. The latter will have coupons (15%) as well on top of the sales notification.

Let me add a bit of color to AC's summary - there was a lot of stuff, but the amount in any given size was not high. As Kabert had mentioned, there wasn't too much in the large range.

There were actually a few very nice 38R pieces, including a tan sportcoat with a bit of red in it that was really nice.

The D-V suits were a mixed bag, most not in wool (at least that I saw). There was a drop-dead gorgeous black linen shawl lapel tux in 42L that some dandy somewhere MUST own. Just magnificent.

There were also a (very small) number of nice leather pieces, including a shearling in a snug European 52 in dark brown suede. I absolutely would have taken it if it fit me!

Finally, we found a decent selection of Borrelli shirts (I walked away with one in a 50/50 linen-cotton blend) in a variety of sizes and some BG own-label shirts at good prices.

There are Kiton ties on the first floor for $69 and a bunch of Bergdorf own-label narrow ties that are nice for spring-summer.

did anyone see any of the DV knitwear? zip vests etc? if anyone heads that way and there are any in euro 54 or 56, shoot me a PM

They still had some pretty nice knitwear when I was there at 6 yesterday, including some really soft Cucinelli for BG cashmere products.

A few weeks ago, I spotted a very nice medium gray Borrelli suit in my size selling for $1,599. It was gone a few days later. It does not surprise me at all that $999 Attolini suits sold so quickly.

They would've had to be some pretty knowledgable FB shoppers though to know and go for the Attolini name. The quality is obvious, I guess, but still....

EDIT: Okay, lemme just flip that logic on its head. They would have had to be knowledgable to understand fully the inherent quality of an Attolini garment to spring $1g immediately. Thinking that makes a bit more sense... Martini hour here, and thank goodness - my brain needs a servicing as vodka levels are dangerously low.

I had the good fortune of meeting Duveen and AC last night while checking out the remnants of "the big haul" (busted on account of wearing the polo chesterfield I posted about once before when I couldn't decide on keeping it... which I believe was the only post I ever made, and, sadly, is now lost to the hard drive graveyard).

In any event...Duveen, interesting you mention the tux--I tried it on and, to my horror, it fit almost perfectly. Seeing as I don't own a tux I feel like I could hardly justify a linen tux (still can't get over this concept) as my only "formal" wear. When would one wear something like this, and for what kinds of events is this appropriate? It was quite a unique piece.

I forget the price, but I agree that this should not be your only 'formal' wear, unless you live in FL.

That said, it is such a cool and unique piece that I'd be tempted to buy it.

If you have limited means, however, I'd steer clear. You'd need to be pretty well set with the basics to invest in a second piece of formalwear. Particularly in a trim size like this - you may not cut quite the same trim figure in 5-10 years, and that suit did not have a ton of give...

dapper: did you notice size/price/colors???

You all should be thankful for the Filenes in your area, mine is full of Tommy H suits and the only item in about 12 visits that was any good was a few Oxxford ties.

Where are you? I seldom see Filene's with nothing much in them unless they are the second or third store in the market (e.g. Filene's in Nat'l Press Bldg is less well-stocked than others, but that is b/c others have first dibs). Are you in a suburb of a major city?

Schaumburg , Il. I have tried the downtown one on State and Michigan and have never found anything except for Abboud suits, and the Loro Piano material suits. I have seen plenty of Oxxford hangers but not actual suits !

Incidentally the Schaumburg one is the one with nothing but Tommy stuff. Although the Marshall's next door has had Luciano Barbera that was ok but quarter lined and the Off 5th or whatever it is has complete crap too.
