Mostly city. Admittedly it has been happening less as I have been doing the majority of my riding to and from work. As an example, a few months ago, I was in a left turn lane and someone in a straight only lane immediately to my right (I was in line with the driver's window) suddenly decided she wanted to turn so she just came over.

When I'm riding in traffic I try not to go with the flow. I'll ride at a pace where I'm almost always passing people, a moving target is harder to hit.

+1. In traffic I accelerate past cars, slowing into a safe zone. I never linger close beside, in front of, or behind a car. Going faster than traffic puts the action in front of me and beside me, and the beside part is only for an instant.

When I'm riding in traffic, all bets are off. I'll do anything I see fit (short of riding in the sidewalk) to avoid cager idiocy.

Some (most?) of this may be already known to the experienced riders on here but I've found that the tips on this site make for really interesting reading..

Don't underestimate the power of fuckwads not paying attention and almost rear-ending you at intersections when the light is red. Had 2 near misses this year alone with this, one with a huge ******* cube van. That was not fun.. Always watch your mirrors until the guy behind you comes to a complete stop..

Same thing happens to me all the time, both in my car and on the bike.

No kidding, my man. Watch the mirrors and flash the brakes for any newcomers. I always like to rev up some more growl in traffic. Give a good 120db of "wattup y'all" at stop lights. Just sayin'...

Also gotta be aware that you can brake harder than a car and that car drivers don't know that so they follow too close.

They were both barbour, one is the Steve Mcqueen Terrence, other is, of course, the international. I currently wear a jacket with armour, so the fact that those don't have it definitely makes me hesitant to get them.

Hi guys! Dropping in to ask a Q which was already discussed but I still am not able to reach a decision.

Looking for a recommendation on which Vanson leather to buy.

I’m not a biker (per se). I ride a Gilera Nexus scooter. Don’t know whether you are familiar with that particular two wheeler. It’s a sporty scooter, fast and agile enough to need some proper gear. I ride mostly in the city (700 thousand population); short daily commute to work; year-round (have a legs cover for it). On weekends I do max 150 km trips outside the city.

I’m mostly in a suit during the week. On weekends I ride in jeans and have a (Bally) leather jacket (obviously not proper gear) and a Belstaff Roadmaster (which is great over the suit but not suitable enough for winter and faster rides outside the city).

So, after reading up I decided on Vanson. I need something with armored (removable), black, slim, slick, least patches possible, very warm (removable liner?) that I can use during the week (suit jacket taken off) and outside-of the-city rides, which still doesn’t look out of place if worn in a bar or similar (if needed).

Since there are no dealers here I would be ordering on-line so size is also an issue. I’m a 42L in suits. My Belstaf is an XL (purposely a little bit bigger to fit over a suit). Which size am I looking at in Vanson? I’m mostly worried about length.

Btw great bikes here and a great discussion. Looking forward to participating. Thanks in advance for all recommendations.

I don't have a Vanson but I've tried them on and they are great jackets. If you haven't already, call Vanson, they would be the best ones to advise you on fit. Also you say your more worried about length; motorcycle jackets are cut short in the waist and long in the arms to accommodate the arms out forward leaning position one has when on a bike.

Worried about lenght since Im quite tall and the usual shortness of moto jackets (which I have tried on several and ridden more then a few times, including on sport bikes) tends to be bizzarely short. Anyway, if anyone else has some first-hand on info I would apreciate it

Have you considered Schott? Their online/phone help is top-notch. They'll get you into the right fit even if it takes shipping a few jackets back and forth.
