This is one of the biggest parts that scares me about getting a motorcycle. I already have back problems and I am sure an accident, even minor, could make my situation worse really quick.

In July of 2007 I had back surgery for a ruptured disk, in November of that same year I had a pretty jarring get off. My back was fine, my collar bone not so much. Life is unpredictable, do what you enjoy. Bibamus, moriendum est.

I dunno, the one I see the most is people changing lanes into me while in an intersection. Happens about once a week, I'm riding along and someone will just change lanes and come into my lane in the middle of an intersection.

If someone was turning left in front of you coming from the opposite direction every week you wouldn't be here to post about it. One is a nuisance. The other is deadly.

If you get a Stebel Nautilus air horn I guarantee people will get out of your way. I've laid on the horn when cars start to change into my lane and I've seen them physically stiffen and immediately get back in their lane. I'm sure they think they're about to get smashed by and eighteen wheeler. 139db. Everyone should have one on their bike.

The "left turn in front of me" is how I totaled my bike. I had full leathers and a full helmet and walked away. Well, I walked away and then when the ambulance got there they strapped me down to a gurney and took me to the hospital. I felt worse after being forced to lay on a bed with a neck brace for several hours than after the accident. facepalm.gif

Thanks, it's a Sparx Corsa. Sparx are good helmets for a reasonable price. It's been retired and replaced with this:

Yes and no. I agree had people turning left in front of me as frequently as this, I wouldn't be writing this post; however, when you have nowhere to go, and someone just moves into your lane the result can be the same, just less likely.

From Nolo.com:

Cars Making Left-Hand Turns

The single most dangerous situation for motorcyclists occurs when cars are making left-hand turns. These collisions account for 42% of all accidents involving a motorcycle and car.

Like I said, I agree, that is very dangerous (and deadly). I just think someone moving into your lane unexpectedly with nowhere to go is more than a nuisance.
