In motorcycle news, Buell has been shut down by HD, and they are selling off MV Agusta. In case you needed any more reason to hate Harley, there's two. Although at least MVA will probably be bought and run better by someone.

MV Agusta is way too damn expensive for what you get. The 1198s Ducati is about 2 thousand cheaper than the MVA F4 RR 312 which is ridiculously overpriced. The R1 setup correctly would destroy that MVA at less than half the price.

Damn, it's getting cold up here -- will likely have to put my bike back in storage in the next week or two.

This is such a ridiculous argument to make on this forum of $30,000 watches, $5000 suits and $1000 shoes.

Speaking of slow riding, here's a video I made a couple of years ago. And yes, that's the bike I have now as well.

Myke, by coincidence I found your video about a month ago while trying to get the whole slow-riding thing down for my test.

Part of our manoeuvres test is to ride 30 feet in more than 12 seconds (preferably not using the brakes). Anything under 12 secs is instant fail. Practiced about 50 times and still couldn't get above 11 seconds. Needless to say I didn't pass

Will be trying again next month, just in time for winter

What is this test for? To get your motorcycle license?

If they allow you to use the rear brake, USE IT. It will make the task so much easier.

It's all about finding the "sweet spot" between the throttle, clutch, and rear brake. Do a search for "friction zone" motorcycle riding.

When I went to police motorcycle training, we did that so much it became natural to me like breathing. We used to do cone patterns at SUPER slow speeds which required slow riding and precision at the same time. It would not have been possible to do them without friction zone riding.

Let me know if you have any other questions or need advice.

Good luck.

Thanks for the tip on friction zone riding - very useful!

Yes, for the license: need to pass both manoeuvres and a Road test. If you fail the manoeuvres, you don't get to do the road part.

This is part 1:

I'm going to buy a cheap bike to practice with before retaking the test. We're allowed to ride for up to 1 year (with some restrictions) after taking 6 hours of lessons.

You're ******* kidding me. I heard Buell described somewhere as a boutique bike, I guess it was just too niche to survive the current market.

I will still own one someday...
