Zip R3i Tuned

Here is a little short vid of my tuned scooter. It was a 50cc but I bumped the jug to a 70cc with a few mods, I need a better cylinder though. Like a Malossi 70cc single ring Aluminum with a max rev of 12k. Currently I can top out at over 60MPH (Spedo goes to 55MPH, I bury the thing if I tuck). I was flying past a bunch of local Vespa riders and their 100+cc manual rides when I blew my final drive due to an undersized belt (like a couple mm too small) that caused too much tension on the pully and chewed up the case till the bearings disintigrated. And dont think that something this small cant get a guy like me in trouble. I have laid it down once on accident the other time I was being a jack ass doing a wheelie by my old shop (days after I got it). I also have been pulled over for spinning the rear tire at a red light.

I didn't want to derail the other thread, so I'll post the details of my new [to me] motorcycle.

It's a 2003 Suzuki SV650.
The performance and cosmetic mods include:
Ohlins rear shock
Racetech gold valve emulators and springs
Pilot Power sport tires
Fork brace
K & N Power Commander
K & N Air Filter
SV 1000 snorkel
Carbon frame savers, rear hugger, triple-clamp covers
Corbin seat
Tank bra
Rear cowl
Read undertail fender eliminator
Bikini headlight fairing
X-Ring gold chain
Gelfer brake lines, front and rear
CRG brake lever
Front fender extender

The seller also included a hi-mount Micron full exhaust with carbon muffler with custom chip, which I am planning to install after a few months.




I've been shopping around for a motorcycle for a while now. Some members here have been helping with my decision on a bike and gear. I ended up buying a Dainese leather jacket, Held gloves, T-Pro Forcefield back protector, Shoei helmet. Still shopping for boots and leather pants. Thanks to everyone who provided this newb some advice. I'll try not to kill myself.

The Suzuki SV650 is almost universally accepted as a great first bike and has a very large cult following. Touted by magazines, it's lightweight, nimble, forgiving, and has a nice power band. It's easy to maintain, has lots of aftermarket support and is relatively inexpensive. Yet, despite being beginner friendly, it also has great performance potential and is often used as a dedicated track bike. It's just a super-solid bike that can do it all.

Excellent choice on the bike Renault. A buddy of mine has one of these and he loves it.

Not to discourage you from leather (again) but will you be commuting on this bike? A pair of textile overpants might suit that better.

Also, not sure what your preferred type of boots are, but I've had very good luck with my Triumph Expedition boots. They are waterproof and kind of adventure-styled, and look a bit geeky off the bike with jeans, but not nearly as geeky as wearing those plastic ones that the crotch rocket guys wear. They have good protection and actually have laces inside which helps fit my skinny ankles.

Nice bike! I just got the Shoei R1000 helmet (black metallic - interchangeable sheilds) and I love it. Totally comfortable and quiet. A HUGE difference from riding with a half helmet. I'm waiting for leather pants from Schott (I got a gift certificate) but after more shopping, I think I would've preferred Vanson. They have more choices and the price isn't that much different. If it helps, I found a forum (like SF) for my bike and I'm sure you can find one for your bike also (if you're interested). Here is a link for anyone who has a motorcycle: Link to site It's a decent site and group of people no matter what kind of bike you have. P.S. Went for the first ride of the year yesterday. Took the battery off of the tender, put everything back together, rode home, went back outside to go for another ride, sonofabitch wouldn't start. I took everything apart today and I assume it was just a loose connection. P.P.S. I got windproof underwear for xmas and now I'm wondering why I got it. If I'm covered in leather pants, a leather jacket, and a full face helmet, why do I need windproof underwear? Oh well.

Good site. I usually lurk, if anywhere, on ADVrider because I like the guys and the trip reports, but I'll check in on that one as well. A lot of the MC forums are filled with people who are... well, not my type.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The people on that site are very diverse, smart, safety oriented, and seem to be good riders. You'll find every kind of rider on there (even scooter riders). Actually, I've found the best forums have been bike specific. But then again, I have a cruiser so maybe they're a little laid back than those on other sites. Haven't checked out too many sport bike forums.

Waiting for MTO to get the grit off the road (probably won't be until late April or early May) before I take my bike out of storage. Not that I get to ride it as much as I used to before the kids arrived

Seriously considering getting a MC license this spring, and picking up a bike during the summer or fall.



Probably would pick up something like the Honda CL350 (above) or CL360 Scrambler as a small starter bike to learn on, and move up from there.

ADVrider is amazing. Two days after discovering that site, I ended up dropping (twice) my Suzuki GS500 crossing a stream...some bikes are not made for adventure riding

Renault78law, I was in the market for an SV650 last year for a starter bike. I ended up getting the GS500 instead. A test ride on the 650 scared the shit out of me as I only rode 250cc cruisers by that point, at the moto school. Ended up regretting my decision about a month into the season when I took my friend's SV650 out for a day. It's not only the large power difference that got to me, but how sorted the bike felt in the canyons. Even in non-spirited riding, the GS500 is a handful...constantly trying to throw you off, wobbling, diving... By comparison, the SV650 felt like a purposeful racing machine.

Just put a bunch of gear up for sale in the B&S section. Helmet, jacket, BNWT boots and gloves. $200 for all.

So far have ridden it home from winter storage, parked it in my driveway, and put a brand new cover on it

My buddy is trying to convince me to go buy an old Goldwing and either clean it up and sell it, or take the fairing off, or give it to him, I'm not sure. Looking at old GL1000s with the ugly Vetters on them, but once that's off there and some work is done, they could make a really nice and powerful cafe bike.
