G & G vs. Corthay

What are people's thoughts on RTW G & G vs. RTW Corthay?

Construction, Handwork, Quality of leathers, Durability, Lasts, Fit, quality, finishing, patina, and anything else I missed out on.

Thank you!

Lets start from the top...what is more pleasing to your eye? Which conforms more to your current wardrobe?

Are you frickin insane, picking using aesthetics isn't what we're all about.

OP: just ponder what Whnay just told you, pick what you like and fit your style. Both companies are constructed well enough to last you for awhile and age well so it's a non-issue unless you plan to do stress tests on both shoes for an obsessive Japanese magazine.

F. M. Killah - the 001 corthay last is quite narrow - but was in their Paris shop last week, they have some nice stuff though, not much in stock though, as most RTW fronts for Bespoke operations.

I tried some G&G at Leffot, they're beautiful shoes and appear to be quite well made. I still didn't get a pair as it didn't fit into my stick but I own two Corthay Arcas. It's possible someone would like both but they're very different animals.

When it comes to what I like Corthay has a better aesthetic and emotional payoff. Construction barely enters the picture once I deem it adequate, aside from being it's own visual reward.

I like the look of Corthay's for sure, but I think the 001 last and the TG73 last have a similar "look"

the narrowness of the 001 did not work out for me

regarding construction, a pair of gator (or croc) corthay's ripped down the side when one of the corthay employees put the middle piece of their 3 piece shoe trees in the shoe!

I think corthay has their last and patina going for them, but constructionwise, I am not so sure, so I turned to SF

Shit happens. I had no problem with my pairs and I jumped a gate in them and did some other non-recommended stuff. I've seen some nice aged ones, of course those I own are plaintoes so the creasing is more apparent than on some Alden cordovan long wings. Whnay had some Cocteau (I think) that are slightly wider in my experience, maybe try those. They're made in the Corthay factory using leathers from the Puy tanneries, not gonna be shitty by any means. If you really want a good quality/price ratio french military uniform shoes used at balls and other events are goodyear welted and there are places where they sell for like €35.

Corthay last 002 is roomier than last 001. I have two pair of Corthay on last 001 and am happy with them construction/quality wise, but to be fair both are under two years old so only time will tell. I don't own any G&G, but looked at them at Leffot.

Comparing the two from an aesthetic perspective G&G now appears to have nicer finishing than Corthay in the sole/waist/heel. Also G&G has more lasts than Corthay (including the new classic shaped last). Corthay wins for patina. However, IIRC G&G is a little less expensive, but as I understand it Corthay is quicker with turn around for MTO.

I have two pair of Corthays on the Arca last and the plain G&G black captoes. Fit/comfort and construction are significantly better with the G&G. If that's what you value, go with G&G. But I love the unique style of the Arcas, which is why I recently bought a second pair in an individualized patina. They are both great shoemakers. The Corthays speak to me, and I may well buy C#3 before G&G#2.

Vox, speaking of medium / big time, are you the one perchance who snagged that 300K parking spot in Boston?

That would imply that he parks his own cars. That's for us small timers.
