Arthritis & Cold Water Swimming

Is there any evidence to suggest that swimming in cold water (belowc 20c/68F) can lead to Arthritis later in life and or other bone joints disorders?

Are there any other known long term negative effects of swimming in cold water once or twice a week? I am talking here out of season where the air temp could be as low as 10c/50F and ocean temp at worst 17C/62F.

I really, really doubt it. I actually have juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and swimming in freezing cold water HELPS my condition. I do it every single morning as therapy (well... The climate is pretty hot where I live, so the water probably isn't that cold by the standards of some).

There are many different types of arthritis that people suffer from everyday. Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are the most common forms of arthritis which cause many people discomfort. Arthritis is the inflammation or swelling of the joints. Over time arthritis can hinder movement of the effected joint to the point where the joint will not be able to function properly. Tarthritis will cause a great deal of swelling if the cartilage is wearing away. The joint will move with a great deal of friction once the cushion and padding of the joint has deteriorated. The joint and muscles around the joint will become inflamed if there is no padding or lubrication to keep the bones from rubbing against the joints.
