Most underappreciated films - Page 2

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou If it hasn't made 100 million dollars. It's underrated. Edit: And this is what Fleddermaus says about it on IMDB: by Fledermaus (Thu Jul 10 2008 02:22:17) \t Ignore this User | Report Abuse \tReply I never wrote before about a movie, no good or bad comments, but after seen this piece of crap I feel that my duty is to warn people not to see this movie. No, no, no, it's not about taste, I'm being objective, this is really a bad movie. It makes you think that this could be a good movie because it has great(well, not so great, but respectable) actors in it, Bill Murray, Anjelica Houston, Jeff Goldblum, Owen Wilson, William Defoe, Cate Blanchet (oh my God, what happened to you? did you make this movie after stop making porn movies or something?). Is this movie actually a comedy? because I found it in that section. But I think this movie needs another category: "Stupid". Yeap, and it's not stupid trying to be funny, just stupid. And how the hell this movie is rated 7.0? Underrated, what?

These three come to mind... Meet Me in St. Louis - You (I) often don't hear it up there with other classics (Singing in the Rain, The West Side Story, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, etc) but it deserves to be right up there with them. Bringing Up the Dead - Just saw this recently and was really blown away by it. Marc Anthony should have at least been nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Bubble - Perhaps the whole release in multiple formats overshadowed the actual film?

The Machinist. I'm not sure that it would be classified as underrated though I don't think it is a well-known film?

Kagemusha is fantastic. I enjoyed it more than Yojimbo.

Once Upon a Time in America. Most people have never seen the uncut version or don't even know the film. I think it's better than The Godfather.

I will be all over this thread like Jinda on a Race Queen later. Fair warning.

Dang, another one I could have included on my list. I own it, too.

I forgot about Yojimbo, and I agree with your assessment.

How can a movie nominated for an Oscar be under appreciated? It's a lovely film, but. . . . Romeo Is Bleeding Do the Right Thing The Freshman (Brando mocking himself is classic)

No possibly about it, a great film.

I nominate A Scanner Darkly, again may be more of a unknown rather than underappreciated...

That was a great movie. Also, Dark City & The Freshman are great picks.

I nominate the box office bomb that was Meet Joe Black. I never thought I would ever watch that. It was recommended to me, I gave it a look, and I loved it.

I would also nominate The Usual Suspects, but it's kind of become a cult classic now. If you haven't seen City of God...well, see it.

I'm sure Tokyo Slim has a four-page spreadsheet answer for this film thread.

Nope. Guillermo Del Toro comes from the Tarrantino school of film robbery. Go watch The Spirit of the Beehive.
