Wearing scarfs during Spring.........I don't get that

While it looks cool in magazines (and I've seen lots in the likes of Mens' Ex), I just can't imagine wearing one in real life.

To those who do (I notice the Styleforum HK contingent do a lot of this), do you get weird looks?

I do it a fair bit - both new york and london - no weird looks!

Important that it not be a thick/heavy cashmere scarf that screams moscow winter.

a light wool like the ones stocked by howard yount, or a nice linen never seems to get any odd attention.

Great for the cool weather we've been having in new york recently...

No, it doesn't even look cool in magazines. Women can pull off this look and that's about it.

Yes, I wear a scarf or ascot from time to time. I get some looks in town but no weird ones. I even see a few other guys wearing ascots so I don't feel like an alien...

Best, H

If it is absolutely necessary, then yes.

Absolutely necessary if you want to send the wrong signal...

If I was to wear one it would have to be linen, silk or cotton. I think the idea is to wear one not for warmth, but to prevent the sun going on your neck.

I've worn a linen one from time to time over here in Toronto.

It does help on some of the brisker mornings.

White silk scarf with black houndstooth pattern here. But only for the night if it is significantly cooling down or when driving the convertible.

It's fashion. Not a particularly good one either.

Saw a couple in NYC like a week ago - both sporting scarves. It was about 76 degrees and sunny. It just looks like you're trying too hard. What next - matching hat and gloves? Thin line between fashion and fashion victim.

While I don't sport the spring/summer scarf myself, I think it has its uses in certain situations: such as an unusually brisk morning or a cool/breezy evening. Since I get warm pretty easily I can't imagine wearing one in weather above 65 Fahrenheit.

Spring scarves are perfect for where I live -- it's always kind of cool and breezy. I've got a couple linen scarves. But, it's not an everyday thing. I don't see scarves as 'fashion' any more than a pocket square or tie is 'fashion'.
