Just wondering what the consensus is on the best variety of, or place to get oysters? The ones I had last weekend near Point Reyes were amazing.

I'm really into Kumamoto, but I think they're generally recognized as the gateway oyster into the other varieties. PEI's are good too.

Just go to a good oyster bar and get a selection.

I'm biased for Apalachicola, but only because I eat about three dozen a week. In the off-season.

I like Kumamoto, but lately I've just been ordering a variety plate. I don't care if they're from LI or the West coast, they've all been delicious.

Yeah, I think I just need to try a variety. Guess I'll wait until September though.

Went on a business trip with my dad a while back. Cut through and met up with a guy in the Louisiana delta/wetlands areas. We stopped by a little dock-side shack in the middle of nowhere that had a sign up for $0.25 oysters. My dad ate them raw, I ate them fried. Best damn oysters anyone will ever taste, pulled out of the water in front of you. Problem was when you got started eating and washing them down with four or five beers, you find out the beers were $10 each.....

If I'm stuck picking just one, I'd go with Island Creek.

Best oyster bar/restaurant my wife and I've been to is the Oyster Bar in NYC at the Grand Central Station.
