What to bring... to an all day party?

This Saturday I'm going to a party. Its sort of a last hurrah, with us as a group, for an old friend who's getting married and moving to an air force base across the country. He just graduated from the Air Force Academy adding to our motives for the party.
Its a small party about 10 people at most, its basically a barbecue near a very large river, so we'll be out on a boat quite a bit too. It's going to start in the afternoon and I expect most of us will be spending the night in their cabin.

I wanted to bring something nice but I'm at a loss as to what I should bring. I was thinking about a nice drink and cigars but I know very little of drink and nothing of cigars. Nor do I know if this is an appropriate gift for such an occasion.

If you were going to bring something nice what would you bring?

seriously, if I were in your exact shoes I would go to a reasonable cigar store and ask for help. I'd say you want to spend about 10 bucks a stick on 10 cigars, and ask for 5 robustos, 5 churchills, 5 short and thin ones and 5 long and thin ones, with about half dark and about half light wrappers. that will give a wide selection for people to choose from, espectially if everyone is about 22-23, they probrably aren't that set in their ways about cigars. you might want to add a bottle of reasonable bourbon, or a minikeg of good beer, or all three.

Your post is a bit unclear to me. Do you want to bring something as a contribution to the party, or do you want to bring it as a gift for the person who is going away/letting you stay in their cabin? For me, the answer to this question would dictate what I decided to bring.

Well a bit of both. I wanted to pick my friend something up, which is why I though of the nice drink. And the cigars I thought for a contribution to the party.

The cigars I could give to the host and the drink to my friend. Or is this improper?

I don't see any reason it would be considered improper, in fact I think it's great idea. Globetrotter's advice above about the cigars seems perfect to me.

For the liquor, if I were bringing a bottle as a gift I'd opt for a nice single malt scotch or an Irish whiskey. My personal preference is for the latter, but both would be great options.

Thanks to you and Globetrotter! I think this is what I'll do. I was actually looking at a thread on scotch a little while ago.

Thanks again!

A few bottles of expensive champagne, since you said there will be ten of you there and it's a celebration for him and he's about to be married.

Makes sense, ad a bottle of something you guys will drink quietly sitting down, like a bottle of Lagavulin or some Porto.

Depends on how big of a river we're talking about here. Big like the Columbia or like the Mississippi? I guess the answer is a pinata filled with cocaine either way.
