I'm not sure what I'll read next. Perhaps The Terror by Dan Simmons or American Tabloid by James Ellroy.

I'm just trying to get through the pile of books on my nighstand. Unfortunately, the pile never seems to shrink.

My vote is for American Tabloid.

I actually went for choice (c), Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard. I haven't read Leonard in awhile, and I've had it sitting around for quite some time. Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown was based on this book.

It's pulp, but so is a lot of what I read. Leonard is always fun, and I imagine it'll go quickly.

Usually I have several books in progress. My two "big reads" right now are Charles Dickens's Martin Chuzzlewit and Louis Menand's The Metaphysical Club, both excellent. I'm also nine books into Lemony Snicket's stupendously droll thirteen-volume A Series of Unfortunate Events, with The Slippery Slope up next.

inadvertendly worked my way through 50 pages of Ben Elton's Inconceivable over breakfast yesterday. Quite entertaining, and an innovative narrative structure (dueling diaries of a couple trying to have a baby). I have breakfast at the same place a few times a week, so I may accidentally end up finishing the whole book. It is on their public exchange shelf, so it may get swiped though....thinking I may take a few books down there, make a donation and withdraw it on my way out.

Competing on Analytics. A great book about the use of data analysis in business.
