He's not a very sellabrated author. Have you read The Good Soldier? It's the only Ford Madox Ford novel I've read, and it was pretty conventional except for the structure which seemed to offer little benefit to the story itself.

The Parade's End novels are wonderful, and show a more adeventurous style than The Good Soldier. I think that Ford is terribly under-rated, and I much prefer him to some of the more celebrated English modernists (Joyce, for instance).

Yeah. Parade's End is my favourite novel of all time. I think I've read it eight or nine times, to the point that the hardcover is falling off and needs to be rebound. The thing that really makes him better than Joyce is that Ford's novels are actually readable.

I read The Good Soldier like ten years ago or more. I remember it as being good, but I need to re-read it.

Halfway through Looking for Jake, by China Mieville. Solid short story collection, the first story (Looking for Jake) is the perfect epistolary story, and I hate almost all epistolary stories. Also reading Critical Theory Since Plato, a collection of Lit-crit essays, if anyone wants to talk about lit-crit.

I knew I wasnt the only one who felt this way. I have never been able to finish a Joyce novel. I always feel like I should be able to finish one of his books but every time I pick one up I just put it back down.

Any Maile Meloy fans here? Opinions?
