I didn't read it in the literature. Someone on the SF, just before the crash, wrote it all out clearly. Maybe johnnynorman remembers. My hazy memory tells me there were two guys who had similar names that were making suits. One of them had to drop the "Isaia" because the other already was using it. But certainly the men weren't making suits in the same company. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I went back to "Nitr-o"'s eBay website and found the following accompanying a Gian Luca sports jacket:

Since Isaia released the Gianluca line, I have had MANY inquiries how they compare to other designers quality, in particular a Black Label Armanee (yes I know it's mis-spelled): Construction wise they're about the same. However, Gianluca's are hand finished, & more attention is paid to the finer details. *BUT*, when it comes to fabrics, the Gianluca wins Hands Down. While the Gianluca may not use the Super high $ premier fabrics that a full fledged Isaia does, their fabric quality is still far above, & beyond that of most other designers in the same, or higher price range.(bold-face mine)

This seller has a huge inventory of both Isaia and Gian Luca garments and, thus, should know whether there is any connection. He implies that there is, but this is not, of course, definitive.

Roger, the people I bought my suit from gave me the same line. None of that is so.

Isaia makes both lines. I'm not certain why there is so much confusion about this issue.

Daily News Record, December 2001

NEW YORK -- Isaia of Naples, Italy, is jumping into a totally new price zone with the launch of a new lower-priced tailored clothing line for fall.

The new collection, which will sport the Gianluca Napoli label, will feature suits retailing from $795 to $895. The new label will also have sport coats from $595 to $695 and trousers at $195. It will be sold out of the Isaia office along with the company's regular line of suits, which retail at an average of $2,000. The new label was named after Gianluca Isaia, son of the company's owner and founder, Enrico Isaia.
