SH, you are indeed passionate about architecture. I'm impressed by your passion.

You've probably learned something too. Your maturing critical eye will serve you great purpose in your journey forward to find happiness and material satisfaction.

That you read The Fountainhead eleventy times?

No. I've never read it. What you've learned is that asking "why?" is the most important action in the continuation of mankind's development.

SH, your avatar reminds me of a art history professor who taught me back in my college days. The room was always dark while she was always spotlighted ... yet all we ever saw was the back of her head ... which was always turned toward the art image projected on the wall.

I picked up "The Architecture of Happiness" last week. I am hoping it sprinkles some knowledge on me.

I dislike vinyl siding so much that I don't even like real siding since it looks too much like vinyl siding.

Perhaps it's time for an interlude:

The Big Bad Wolf huffed and he puffed,
yet he couldn't blow down the house of brick.
But the Big Bad Wolf wasn't going to let that stop him.
For you see, the Little Pig with the house of brick
had never obtained a building permit.

I missed this thread entirely. I just don't quite understand how people with functioning eyeballs can so often prefer ugliness over beauty. I'm not saying it's easy to design a balanced and pleasing space (it's actually really hard), but at least it's fairly easy to look at pictures and see the difference.

Also, this is styleforum...

I only like vinyl in my records, not my siding.

Isnt this what might be described as a sea going mcmansion? Look at the ghastly (and needy) use of fiberglass. The hull should have been crafted with reclaimed planks from 9th century viking longships.

It was all the rage among the "beautiful people" in the 70s. Of course, now they are all plastic ... or rather rebuilt of it.
