Keeping my current phone for probably another year almost so I can wait.

To above: phone comparison on the blackberry website reveals that the Tour does NOT have wifi. Hence, it is next to useless in comparison with the bold.

It's not next to useless, most of the time you'll be surfing the net on it where WiFi isn't available or where you'd have to pay for it, so having WiFi is actually next to useless on a phone. It's one less radio to have on wasting your battery too. If you're already on the fastest 3G network, like Verizon, you're good. Having played with Storm 1, I think it heavy and bulky, so I hope it's not too close to that. Still, I like the Pre.

The "regular" bold clearly has a 2mp camera as per the webpage.

Anyway, i'm leaning towards an iphone 3gs. It seems to take pretty good pictures, has video recording, better browser, fixed part of the type problem with a landscape keyboard, etc. The one issue I'm wondering about is GPS accuracy. A google search turns up a lot of complaints, but they are mostly from last year. Were these issues resolved? Does it work well now? (In cities and driving between them?)

Sorry, you're correct - I have the 8800.

The GPS for me has been outstanding. I gave it a 300 mile test spin this morning. It is much, much faster at locating me than any of my bb's have ever been.

do the BB maps orient themselves to the direction you are facing?

You would be very incorrect on this one.

BB maps don't really go down to the foot level. For driving you use the att navigator -- a product that blows. I would continually get service outages for direction lookups or inability to connect with the satellites. Even while carrying the 8800 and the curve, neither could find anything. I always travel with a dedicated GPS unit.

BB maps orient themselves to you as you move, just like a normal GPS (i.e. turn left in 3 miles), but you'll never get the orientation on a bb that you see in the apple ads.

I honestly think the whole map re-orienting itself as I walk would throw me off. That's not how I'm used to maps working. At the very least it would take some getting used to.

Does the map orientation work as advertised on the 3gs?

However, I was reading a review of the new iphone 3GS. The screen doesn't get as dirty and is easier to clean, it's faster, and it has a compass. The compass is actually really cool b/c when you are using the gps, the maps will rotate depending on what direction you're facing in. Does the BB do that? And apparently they have a landscape keyboard that has more space between the buttons for better typing accuracy, which was a major misgiving for me. I've also been reading that the browser is far superior on the iphone. Oh and it has a video recording (good for teh gqg33k home porn!) and a 3mpix camera (not sure if it has flash though)..

The google maps app on the storm works with the GPS (and is nicer than the provider apps). The map doesnt rotate, but the cursor indicating what direction you are facing/moving does rotate when you ahve GPS on.

The AT&T store I went to had all of the phones turned on and ready to use.
