Would you go to Mexico these days?

As some of you know I live in Houston, and I go to Mexico often.

Primarily to the border. But I've been to many of the tourist spots ( Acapulpo, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel, Cancun ) as well as Monterrey and Guadalajara too.

I love the Mexican people and I think it's a great but poor country.

Today, I saw this happened in Acapulco. Granted no tourists were killed but Acapulco is extremely important to Mexico's tourism industry. I've already vowed to stay away from the DF, Mexico City, because of random kidnappings.

Would you go to Mexico these days as a tourist or do you think it's just too dangerous?

Can't you just have your Mexican ladyfriends come to Houston for a weekend?

i would love to go to Mexico City one day. actually ive been talking about it with my wife about a future vacation. ive been to the border and also to Cabo and loved it.

I dont think it is dangerous to go there at all. perhaps relatively less safe than years before, but still safe enough. one of the main things that drives Mexico is tourism.

Would not go. Its a mess. Even without the current problems it has some of the most corrupt law enforcement this side of Africa.

I didn't like the vibes when I was down in Mexico in 1946 as a young 'un and have never cared to go back. Many individual Mexicans are sweet and lovable people, but Mexico as whole just strikes me as corrupt, sinister and violent.

I remember an old veteran of the Border Patrol telling me, "Them Messuns'll kill ya as soon as look at ya. Ah know, Ah done kilt nine of 'em myself."

I asked if he had known Charles Askins in the Patrol. He replied, "Oh yeah, I knowed Charlie Askins. He was a wunnerful man--HARD and MEAN!"

I wonder if old boys like him aren't an extinct breed these days.

Immigration and border enforcement is tougher than ever and coyotes are $2,500-$3,000!

That sort of takes the bargain aspect out of it

And Mexico really has some beautiful tourist attractions. Houston is not noted for it's beauty.

I was there two weeks ago, and have been there 5 or times in the past 2 years.

Fuck no!

Mexico has never been a place I would ever consider going. So what's going on now is just another reason to skip it regarding any holiday plans.

Not really interested in going.... Maybe if they clean it up a little.... Currently some of the things Mexico has to offer: -Swine Flue -Can't drink the water or ice -Gang Battles -Kidnapping -Corrupt Government/Police -Shady as hell -Don't speak the language

Come now, as a former Houston resident, the brown beaches of Galveston continue to lure me with their siren song..

I would go to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, or Cabo. I would avoid the East Coast and Mexico City.
