Sportcoat with jeans

Hello Forum,

What kind of sportcoat (color and fabric) goes well with dark or medium blue jeans? I have black hair and lightly tanned skin.

Thanks!

In my opinion it depends entirely on the age/look you're trying to pull off combined with what shoes you'll be wearing. I personally dress alot younger than most of the posters here and pair a black cotton single button peaked lapel Dior Homme blazer with a pair of black chuck taylors or chelsea boots depending on the occasion.

I think a better question is, what kind of sport coat doesn't? The only answer I can come up with is "one that's cut too full". Basically any sportcoat that fits you properly can be worn with dark jeans.

Tomasso, your upper body appears to be very short!!! I had a couple of pics laying around of jeans and sportcoats. Hope they help. With darker jeans, I think one can get away with more (i.e. suit coats like one of the pics I posted) but that is pushing it. Darker is always more formal. Also, two of my pet peeves are; dress socks or black socks with denim. One is still wearing jeans so wear a chunkier sock, maybe like a crew sock in navy or with darker patterns. Shinier, darker, and more fine fabric / leather are always dressier. I like the belt (and outfit) in Tomasso's pic but I tend to wear matted, thicker leather belts (like 1 1/4" thick) Edit: I almost forgot, contrasting skin always works out well with contrasting colors. Dark hair / lighter skin works better with dark coat / lighter shirt. Just like the inset of one of the pics. In addition, a lot of designers are coming out with 'soft coats' right now. Coats that are not sportcoats per se, aren't very heavy, but look great in layers over shirts and sweaters. Just something different from the usual sportcoat with jeans look which some people seem to be getting sick of. Just another option... http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f7...1214371931.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f7...3121435646.jpg

Honestly, I considered this look in September when I got my first bespoke jacket made(my avatar). Originally, my thinking was that i was going to get a jacket that could be dressed up or look good with jeans & a shirt that matched the lining. I gave-up on the jeans look because i couldn't find a pair that looked right with the jacket.

I think it's for the best because sportsjackets look better with proper pants, and I hardly dress "old" (I'm 26). The cut of everything you wear is the most important thing. My jackets all fit very close to the body, have high armholes, and a very lightly padded shoulder. The pants I wear with sportsjackets are all flat fronts with a medium rise and tapered leg. Your choice of shirts & shoes is going to be a big factor in how it's all pulled together.
