Le Creuset - Page 4

I only have two LC pieces - a dutch oven and a pan. The pan is definitely the least used. Stuff sticks, etc. The dutch oven, OTOH, has been awesome. It's heavier than heck, but it's been used many many times over to cook paella.

Other than the dutch oven, I'm smitten with my braiser and pate terrine.

Superb. I also have a few pieces (Dutch/French ovens included) and as long as you don't burn them they remain remarkably non-stick with proper care. There's a sense of reassurance to cooking with them that I've not got with many other pieces of cookware. There are a few other cheaper oven-to-hob-to-fridge pots that I use as well such as Fissler's Black Edition (aluminium) which are much easier to juggle, but generally speaking I like to use the Creusets.

They come in pretty colors. Aside from a dutch oven, I don't have much use for it.

I have a five piece copper set that I received as a gift a long time ago, and rarely used until a few years ago. It is demonstrably better at certain tasks than anything else, especially sauteeing. The copper just heats evenly and consistently and does not lose the heat easily. However, the shapes are not ideal, the stuff is super heavy, the handles are iron and get really hot, and it is expensive.

I have never bought more, but I do use the stuff I have for those dishes whose size matches the pans (not too many, alas).

She has a bid in on ebay right now, the 5.5 quart Dutch Oven. NIB. We'll see.

Too small to be that useful. 8 is a much more useful size.

5.5 is fine for 2-4 people as 8 is a pain to use due to the girth and weight. However, do get an 8, you'll use it for larger recipes or when you have people over (and I'm under the assumption you'd get an 8 and a 3.5/something smaller anyways)

Yeah, the 5.5 is just for us. We'll get the bigger one later, and have made up our mind about the brand by then.

I cannot think of a recipe I have ever done that called for braising in so small a pot, and I don't always cook for large groups. I tend to always cook for leftovers, however.

The beef burgundy I'm about to go finish would have gone nicely in it.

I rarely braise in the first place so 5.5 is usually more than enough for my gf and I. In fact, 3.5 can usually do.

I'd love an 8 though. My wine hobby prevents that.
