V for Vendetta - Page 4

*I've not read the comic, so I can only speak to the film*

The movie totally failed to acknowledge the fact that populism can be just as bad as tyrannical fascism, and that the former often leads to the latter. In fact, with just a few subtle changes, it could've been a very good satirical account of the dangers of mob rule. Also, having as much of a love of London as I do, I found it very difficult to get behind someone who blows it up, if only for aesthetic reasons.

Also, I found it extraordinarily amusing (though this was probably unintentional on the part of the film) that Guy Fawkes, a papist, was the hero of this fellow who's trying to topple a religious despotism.

The Stephen Rea thing is interesting, given that his wife aparently had a part in a car bombing outside the Old Bailey, which is bombed by V in the film.

The irony eh!

Stephen Rea's wife, or to be fair I think it is ex wife, was a part of a terrorist cell who planned and attempted to execute a large number of bomb attacks. If I remember correctly at least one was not foiled, and at least one person died, with of course many maimed. (I deliberately do not use the word "injured" to describe those who have been victims of terrorist explosions, but who were not killed. I used to get injured playing Rugby, a few cuts, bruises, broke a bone or two, even some dislocations, what these people suffer is, trust me, a world away from that)

Stephen Rea, an actor that we can really hate, and for once have good reason.

But if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true!

I forgot about Gibson!

2 actors it ok to hate.

Gene Kelly used to fund terrorists.

Sadly he is dead now.

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.
