Can't find the right fit for me

I never really understood the true value of a good fitting jean until now. I used to wear any old denim which would really make me look funny but it didn't matter for some reason.

I'm 25, 5'7", 140lbs. I used to wear Lucky Brand 'Vintage Straight' jeans. These are really basic straight legs. My friend commented that I look like I'm 40 and divorced with two children when I wear these jeans.

So, I went and bought 2 pairs of Sevens. Both are A-Pocket 'Bootcut' jeans. I really don't like how these fit. They seem too damn tight around the thigh and two flared at the bottom. The back also rises in a weird way.

I heard that Diesels fit well so I tried them on and got the same effect of the 7's. I'm really at my wits end. Any ideas on what I should try? I never thought buying jeans would be so damn frustrating.

Thanks.

BTW I'm located in LA, CA if there are any specific shops I should try.

PS - The desired look is something that fits well, yet is just a bit loose, maybe a bit flared? I don't even know what looks good anymore.

Go for some straightlegs with a lower rise than your Luckys. A darker wash would also make your jawns look less dad-ish.

American Rag in LA will have a couple dozen brands and styles for you to try on. Go in there and see what works for you.

Do 7's have different fits based on pocket style? I mean would one A-pocket bootcut look different from a whatever pocket bootcut?

Also - Not into skinny jeans.

This is a bad place to be asking about 7 jeans. Try honestforum for that type of stuff.

Just curious as to why? I'm obviously new to this stuff. Everyone here hates 7's?

Forget True Religion, 7 for all Mankind, Diesel, and all of that garbage. You are paying too much for a shoddy product. Since you live in LA, you have the good fortune of being near Secret Service. Stop by the store and try on some Crate jeans. Their affiliate thread: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?p=2039166

No reason to eschew Nudies, except for how popular they've become. They're still good denim as far as I know (and have seen).

For the price no way, the crotch rips before you even see good fading and the fading never gets any better than electric blue.

If you're really that concerned, either start taking measurements of jeans that fit you well and look for jeans with similar measurements, or get your jeans tailored.

The Lucky's brand is considered an "athletic fit" which is popular with weight lifters who have big thighs and Costco customers with beer bellies.

Any place you go to such as American Rag when you ask for something "A bit loose" they freeze and the wheels start turning in their head. They might have a few styles for you to try but most of it's going to be tight. I think your options will be RRL, Earnest Sewn, Kicking Mule Workshop and maybe the Jean Shop or Ever brand Jacksonville jean. If none of that works give J Crew jeans a try, they have a nice standard fit and the Levi's easy fitting 559's are a bit loose but the colors blow.

And 7's? Not on my legs pal.
