Manhattan Sales Alert!! - Page 29

I stopped by Cenci at lunch. There's some excellent stuff, but only a small rack of about a dozen coats at the steep discount (Lint Brush's outerwear) and nothing in my size. Sportcoats and suits were very nice, and still a little pricey. A seersucker suit was $560 after discount and tax. Trousers were 40% off, as was outerwear. Does anyone remember if they take a further markdown?

Also stopped by Barney's. There was a nice C&J benchgrade monkstrap in brown for $260, and some interesting Calozeria Harris shoes that I hope slip to the warehouse sale. Pretty much everything was on sale. I admired a navy 100% Loro Piana cashmere Hickey Freeman sportcoat at $500 something, but couldn't justify it.

I think the better play upon consideration is to wait another week or so. The sale pants in the past have been marked down to $75, and the sportcoats and suits to a fraction of the price (I got a nice Belvest last year for $250). Winter weight pants are now 60% off and usually retail for between 200 and 300. A selection of Tod's oxfords and loafers are available for $130, in limited sizes.

I didn't realize the other jackets were only 40% off--better off to wait on those as well, but at least when they blow stuff out, they really mean it.

I brought a pair a couple of weeks ago from Barneys...I am in love with them...does any one know where these fall in the 'pantheon' of good shoes.

Harris are generally well-regarded, but not lusted over like some shoes. They are generally thought of as well-constructed, but a bit less distinctive than Sutor, Santoni or other top-tier Italians.

I happen to like some of their styles, and would put them in a camp with Bettanin and Venturi and other Italian makes - I like them better than Moreschi. They are more fashion-forward than Gravati, and I am not sure whether or not to give Gravati the edge in construction...

I too went to Cenci today; probably missed chorse by an hour or less. The single pleaated pants (which I prefer) are being phased out and are 60% off of $295. The cotton pants are 40% off msrp and the other wool pants are 30% off. I think both the single and double pleated wool pants retailed for around $295. They had ties for 50% off; I bought one that was originally $137. The prices were better when I went on New Year's Eve - they had ties for $25 and pants for $75. However, based on what I saw that time, I don't think the suits and sports jackets will be reduced. It seems that they normally reduce some by 60% and the rest by 40%.

Not sure if this was posted previously. From topbutton.com: • You haven't even plugged in your A/C and fall collections are already pushing their way to the front of the stores! The good news is that summer duds are getting cheap, cheap, cheap! And that includes Cloak, so, fellas, starting June 12, head to Greene Street for marked down field coats and skinny jeans (by August, there's a good chance they'll still be in style). Sale through July 31. Monday through Saturday, noon-8 p.m. and Sunday, noon-7 p.m, 10 Greene Street, 212-625-2828.....

Have "seconds" Brooks Brothers ties in a variety of patterns.
$20 each or two for $30. Not bad if you need a few starters or basic rep ties.

Which Filene's Basement?

Don't know if others have posted this, but C21 downtown has a good selection of Brioni suits on sale -- actually, the best selection in my size (44R) I have ever seen there. They've just cut the price on these suits from $1999 to $1499. Great deals to be had. I was lucky enough to find a lovely navy 3B Escorial.

When will they drop the Brionis to $600?

Riflessi NYC's W57th (between 5th and 6th, I think) store is closing down and some good deals on suits. I picked up a Grupo Tre (sp?) suit for $620 (incl. tax and alteration), which I'm told is made by Kiton.

Turnbull and Asser sale continues to be pretty so-so, with shirts priced at $109 and suits at $700 and $1500. As for selection, the shirt has more variety than the suit--lots of DB.

The Joseph Abboud store in the Time Warner Center is closing June 23rd and everything is 50% off. I picked up a sportcoat and a couple pairs of pants. The sportscoats was $250 and pants were $97 each. Pretty good selection in all sizes.

Peter Elliot's outlet store (across the street form their regular shop) has a great selection of ties (especially woven stripes) all priced at $35. Some are clearly made by Bizzocchi. They also have a bunch of Cheaney shoes reduced to $150 from $395 with an especially nice brown suede chukka with dainite sole.

Was at the Malo sample sale earlier today. Very good selection, and good prices. If only I had more money.
