Yes, it was definitely the soiffer sale. they must have had a few because I went back on one of the later days and the suits were even more heavily discounted. Usually, the 42Rs disappeared pretty quickly but it was just hanging there so I grabbed it. Have definitely worn it enough times to have gotten my money's worth.

The very first one was incredible. A huge table full of Stuart's Choice shoes at $250 or $300. I wish I'd taken a picture . . .

Was this during the throes of the financial crisis / luxury goods bear market?

Anyone check out the Abboud sale?
Yes, definitely pre-meltdown. I went back and checked my email - I have an email from a woman who was working the register at the first one dated 4/15/2005 . . . edited for decency:

i know this is so nervy- but after you signed the 'sample sale'mailing list--- i decided to do so, too... and happened to *notice*you signed right above me... and wanted to drop you a note (perhaps as you had hoped? or am i crazy?) i hated this entire week of cashier work (first time on the other side of a cash register ever!) and the occasional interesting person definitely brightened the day.. lemme know if i'm out of line, i suppose.. enjoy those suits

Asprey was another one that was insane. I got a cashmere overcoat at 90% off for a little over $300. It has turn-back cuffs with little threads keeping the cuff together, so it looks like the sleeve has cufflinks. With Asprey's purple lining. No matter how many times I wear that coat to the Ralph Lauren store on 72nd, the same senior sales rep asks if the coat is bespoke. every time.
