What is the best way to use Style Forum to get current info
on Sales (Deals) in Manhattan? I am new to Style Forum. Thanks.

To Boot is always a good sale. "If the shoe doesn't fit" there are wonderful socks (one size) for $10 bucks and under.

Turnbull & Asser sale (not sure how incredible the prices will be...)
I hope they don't modernize the store - keep it old school

Theory is having a sample sale from 6/2 to 6/7 according to NY Mag's sale page. If it's like the sale last year, it's not a bad source for sportswear.

Quote:
Theory has the men's and women's collections from $25.

Where: Men's, 520 Fifth Ave., nr. 43rd St., third floor (212-398-2777); women's, 261 W. 36th St., nr. Seventh Ave., second fl. (212-947-8725) When: men's, 6/2-6/7, and women's, 6/5-6/9 (call for hours)

For those who wish to find out about sales independently of this thread, topbutton.com has a free subscription service, and lazarshopping.com has a sales report that you can subscribe to, for a fee. New York Mag also lists some sales every week in their print and free online editions.

My wife will violently disagree, but in anticipation of T&A's "sale" I have moderated my spending recently ... with the exception of the Mackays.

Some nice welted Peluso's for 169-199 originally $550. Kiton's ~$700, great deals if you are a U.S. size 10 because there is some selection. The antiqued brown Jodhpur's were really nice but too big for me. *sigh* 2 Lattanzi's around 11-13 in size, still >$1000 I think.

Are their suits and overcoats still made by Cheshire formerly known as Chester Barrie? How about C&J, are they on sale too? I desperately need some braces.

I love the shop as is, hope they don't screw up its clubby atmosphere with the renovation.

I can't imagine they would alter the ambience of the store ... I would expect them to expand the space. It is awfully narrow and cramped.

I am traveling to London in a couple of weeks. The T&A sale on 57th is certainly timely as the exchange rate right now is criminal.

I know for certain that C&J will not be part of the sale ... salesman told me last week.

Morris,
I feel for you with the upcoming London visit, it looked like we were going back to 2 for 1 again there for a bit (most on the board are probably too young to remember those dark days). I've got my tailor coming across the pond to visit in July and he is so eager for me to order something, but I'm not sure that the Hank Paulson effect will have done enough to bring the dollar back in line by then.
When you were at T&A last wek, did you get a sense of whether or not they would be doing pre-sale this weekend?
Thanks,
DD

Dennis

It's starting to feel like the late 70s again ... oil crisis, Middle East turmoil and punishing exchange rates.

On a pre-sale, I can't say for certain. No one in the shop mentioned it when I was there. Also, the email note that I received today did not mention a pre-sale. However, knowing T&A only the very, very select few (not I, said the fly) would be receiving information of that sort.

I should probably contact my credit card companies to let them know about the on coming damage.
