One thing I like about Barneys warehouse sale is that it marks the beginning of an end of summer. Goodbye heat, humidity and casual summer. Hello chilly nights, bright days, cool crispy air and falling leaves. Bring out the worsted pinstripes and suede semi-brogues.

There is no sanity clause in my contract and he won't be delivering presents this year, so I better shop for myself. So, sure, I would be interested in being the 2nd SF nutjob on line. What time you think of getting in line?

I'll be there sometime before 10. In my experience, there's really no line early in the sale. And for good reason.

My experience has been thats it worth an early trip for the C&J Handgrades. They usually have very nice styles that are gone by the 1st or 2nd day. Granted, you're not getting them at the greatest discount, but they're almost sure to be gone a week into the sale. One year I picked up a pair of Clifford's on the 337 in antique chestnut. This color isnt even offered via C&J. Last year it was a handgrage suede chukka for $380.

I think this sale gets a bad rep in general because alot of quality items dont make it to the first cut, which is when the majority of bargain hunters seem to descend upon the sale . . .I think.

I think the bad rep is due to the high number of house brand suits and ties.

Well also the beginning prices are generally the same as those in the store prior to the sale -- so you could get the same deal without the hordes, without the long lines, without the warehouse.

It's only in the later mark-downs do things get cheaper.

Also, people remember the sale of old -- that had some truly astounding deals. It's like ebay that way.

There're usually a decent of selections of Isaia, Oxxford, and Battistoni jackets and suits after the final cut at pretty good prices. Kiton and Brioni usually disappear quickly after the first cut.

I think I'll probably get there around 9 and will be somewhere in the racks.

Me too. I have a whole bunch of new fall gear that I can't wait to wear.
