Go to the Hickey Freeman sale. Prices are good and could be getting better.

I bought 2 sportcoats, both of which don't fit what I'd think of as the Hickey Freeman silhouette. They are pretty slim, and the BG coat has a very high button stance. In fact, it's almost too high, as it will show shirt below the button, but I LOVE it. The material is outstanding. Pics to come soon

  • Sky blue, single breasted, notch lapels, 2 button, single vent. 55% linen, 42% wool, 3% silk - $100, down from $1000. They had more of these, in yellow, in blue, and in green. Unfortunately the green was not in my size. It was beautiful.
  • Navy with light blue windowpanes. Single breasted, notch lapels, two button, side vents. Unfinished sleeves. 93% cashmere, 7% silk. From Bergdorf Goodman. $200 down from $????. No price tag, but my guess is at least $1500. Only one like it at the sale.

Trousers were $60. Hickey by Hickey Freeman sportcoats were $100, suits $200. Tuxedos were $300. Some suits were $400. Shorts were $20, belts $10, ties $35 or 5 for $150. Outerwear was 33% off previous price. I'm going back tomorrow, bright and early. One of the staffers said he thought they'd take the prices down again.

An interesting thing I heard as well: the staffers are allowed to put aside merchandise for themselves on the first day, but buy on the LAST day. Anyone want to get a job for Soiffer Haskin and be our mole?

Sounds good chorse

How was sizing? I am a common size 46, so I am hoping to get there tomorrow with a decent selection left.

There's still a lot of stock left, and I think a lot will be around tomorrow. I would advise going in the morning if possible--also, they close early tomorrow. Speaking to the staff, I got the impression that HF took notice of all the stock left at the end of last year's sale, and is changing the markdown policy. I'm glad! 90% off is my kind of sample sale!

Did they have any suits or outerwear in extra-long sizes? (specifically 44)
Outerwear was not well stocked--maybe 10 coats. There's some casual outerwear, but sized S, M, L.

I wasn't looking at suits closely, especially not out of my size, but I did see some longs. I wouldn't count on extra-longs. The suits took up about half of the space, for those of you familiar with it.

I just got back from the sale. Will return tomorrow and hope for further reductions. Some further reductions on some blazers ($100) and suits ($200), but this is for only a small selection of items. Most, if not all of, the Hickey Freeman line blazers are $199 and most of the Hickey Freeman line suits are now at 2 for $1000, which if I recall correctly isn't much of a difference from the reductions that occurred at the end of the day last year. Ties for $35, slacks at $60, and the dress shirts were $59.99.

All in all, lots of good looking stuff.

Picked up a 1 button tux for 300, and a 900 retail navy windowpane sportcoat for 99.
Y'all are going to freak, but the tux choices are 1 button notch lapel or 3 button peak lapel. I went with the 1 button, and I'm quite pleased.

Suits are still 580 or 2 for 1000. Shirts are 70! Ties are 36 or something like that. There are probably 2000 ties there, and they have boxes and boxes to re-stock.

belts in 42 inch sizes for 10 bucks, a few socks for 4.

Prices seem better than last year, though marginally. We'll see what happens tomorrow morning.

At the Hickey sale, did you notice the selection for us little folks...36R?

Also, what is the payment policy? Do they accept cards?

I think they do not accept cash and you have to use a card.

Picked up a nice blue windowpane for $199, 95% cashmere, 5% silk, unfinished and from Bergdorf's. Those seemed to be the best deals, as long as it was not 100% cashmere, they were $199. They seemed to think the markdowns would be slight if any today. I guess the early reports will be in an hour or so.

Only further markdowns this morning are casual outerwear 66% off ticketed. Suede shirts (jackets) are 100 or 125, and there was 1 "large' (44R I'd guess ) 100% cashmere light gray herringbone 1/2 lined BJ sport coat for 66% off 600. This thing must have been 2 grand retail.

Suits are still 579 and ties are still 35.
