I saw the Napoli Coutures (in a separate section as someone mentioned) but seemed to think that they were nearer 300usd in price but then I didn't really take that much notice. They did have a brown slightly chisel toed shoe that piqued my interest for a short while. Other than that I wasn't really in the mood for the type of the shopping in the store.

I'm not sure if I should be thankful or sorry that I live far away from NYC. These sales would make me miss a few mortgage payments.

Might be worth a visit, but my recollection was that prices aren't that great - pretty much at outlet level and no lower, and they don't even drop them on the final day.

For anyone who doesn't already know about this sale, the hickey freeman sample sale has hundreds of suits $500-600, probably 700 ties $40-60, and lots of shirts around $70.

Tuxes in 1 button notch lapel, center vent, and 3 button peak lapel (ouch) center vent are $300.
Suit models are typically Madison (standard American) and Canterbury (slimmer).

the prices aren't giveaways (close to 50% off), but if you like HF stuff, the sales in the past had a really large selection. In the past, as the sale progresses the volume deals get better, like 10 ties or $350 or 3 suits for $1200.

I thought the sales were only held once a year, now it looks like every 6 months. Hopefully the inventory will be as extensive.

There is a wide range of fabrics and handwork levels lumped onto the racks. I saw quite a few "hand tailored" suits selling for 500 on the last day that looked really great. The "Hand Tailored" ties are much nicer than the standard line, and are priced the same as regular at this sale. If you like striped ties, they will have hundreds.

I second all that billiebob said. If you like Hickey Freeman (and I do, more and more) you can do well. Some of the sportcoats get marked down pretty far, and they have tons of pants at a pretty good price. Among many other things, at the last sale I picked up a pair of linen double forward pleats with side tabs and brown wide wale cords for around $50 each. Well made stuff, and I like that it is made here.

If you are a young guy trying to build a basic business wardrobe, I'd suggest stopping by late in the sale.

As far as the frequency, I think that with Soiffer Haskin's new location they are increasingly motivated to hold the sales. It means slightly diluted stock, though.

Hickey Freeman was pretty good. I picked up three sportcoats and may go back for more. They seemed to have fewer suits this time than at previous sales, though it could just be the space. They did have more of the hand tailored suits, though they are currently priced at $800. A fair price for a very nice suit that retails at over $2500.

The Soiffer Haskin employees now recognize me. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

I had that experience after having gone to three of the Soiffer sales in a row. A salesman asked how the sweater I had picked up at the Malo sale was working out for me. (He was the one I had asked for an opinion on the color, but still they do get hundreds of people each day.)

Good luck!

(oh, and it's not suede, it's nylon and polyurethane. Still really nice though, IMO)
