For some lucky dope who's a size 12: Bergdorf's has a beautiful John Lobb two-eylet derby in a reddish brown suede for $499. Go forth and acquire.

Gonna go check out Hermes sale...will be back with update : update : I saw so many Asian people today. (disclaimer: I'm Asian, too.) All in all, not worth the time unless you really love Hermes. The line to get in literally went for half an avenue. This was at 4:30pm. Ties @ $87 (from $145). Uninspiring price but great selection. They seemed to have boxes of ties and kept on laying out new ones to replenish--they were getting snatched up fast. A lot women were clearly out to please their boyfriends/husbands. I wanted to yell out "buy it new from ebay!" but hey, such is the pressure of being a maven. One customer limited to 10 ties per visit. Suits @ $1200 (cotton or linen or blends thereof) - $2200 (wool). Not a lot of classic styles and frankly, at that price, I'd get 2 Chan suits. Women's Herbags (?) @ $1000, canvas bags @ $180-300. One Herbag and one canvas bag per customer per visit. Silk scarves @ $100ish. 5 scarves per visit. Shirts $120. Mostly patterned, saw a navy shirt. Who makes Hermes shirts, btw? Nearly no men's shoes when I was there--a few suede sneakers here and there, perhaps 5 pairs in total, and a couple pairs of sandals. Lots of wallets and other leather goods, including a slim design ($470, reduced from $780) I really liked and will keep an eye on. It's just wide enough to fit US$ bills and will hold about 2-3 cards. No debit cards, personal credit cards only. I've never seen so many people ecstatic about paying slightly less than absurdly overpriced goods--chatting on the cell phone, "The ties are so cheap! The shirts are so cheap!"--great for Hermes for having this kind of pricing power. Definitely a lesson in marketing. I asked about further markdowns and she said she couldn't say, but that there will be new merchandise everyday.

I don't why I still bother with Hermes sale, I know the line is going to be long (yesterday it was around the block to the Container Store), there will be no John Lobb (there's none, as JL runs its own semi-annual now) and overpriced (tie $87, suit $2400 marked down from $4000, shirts $200's to $300 down from $400-500.)

I was there yesterday quarter to 5 and the line was around the block, staffs announced no more people would be let it at round 5pm and they started giving out passes for today. If you really want to check it out for yourself, here's how you can bypass the long line by reproducing the pass. Print the following exactly as it is in MS Word in Arial font and 12 point with center margin:

HERMES SALES
PRIORITY ENTRANCE
Thursday 24th
From 10am to 8pm
1 person only

Then cut it to size. That's how they did those impromtu "passes." I was there this morning, they have separate line (only 5-10 people long) for those with passes and you'll get in with little wait.

Barney's has taken a reduction of 30% on all ties, some suits, some sportcoats, some outerwear, and all damaged merch. I think it's also 30% off on shirts, but I didn't look.

I found a few decent Barney's ties that were marked $29. Less 30% makes them a good deal, but nothing really caught my fancy.

When do you think they'll take the next reduction? There were a few garments which I now covet.

at hermes, i did see a lot more merchandise today than yesterday, but prices are more or less the same. more suits (some classic styles), a few more pairs of shoes.

i'd suggest swinging by on the last day. even though since it's saturday, you may need to bring your newspaper and line up 1 hour beforehand, who knows...

Anyone know when the Oxxford flagship closes shop for the move and the sale ends?

And more importantly, does anyone know what happens to the suits they have note sold? Or, put another way, just how important is it to them to get rid of the suits before the move?

Was at Barney's warehouse today. Barney's ties 50% off, others 30%. Barney's Shirts 30% off, others 50% off. No additional markdowns on suits yet and shoes are still only 20% off. Maybe that changes tomorrow -- going into the last week? Barney's shirts should eventually get down to $36 -- they did last year on last day

What's everyone's opinion on Brioni and Kiton dress shirts. At what price would you consider them a good buy?

Found a Ferragamo tie -- 45$ after markdowns. Same price as Saks final cut -- where I scooped up 4, just FYI.

First post, thanks for all the great info on the site.
