I know a rich, well educated, blonde guy that looks like a model and is on an online dating site. He can definently get dates in real life, but he's using it to 'get more at-bats', I guess. I've also casually looked at one of the free sites before. What I've learned:

- young single moms (most with one kid, some with 3+ )
- a few fairly religious types (or, super-religious)
- a few hotties
- lots of 'curvy' women. And by 'curvy', they actually mean heifer.

There are probably more cute girls, based on %, at an upscale grocery store like Whole Foods. The diffrence is many of them aren't single.

I know a very good looking girl who put a profile on OkCupid. She got a TON of emails, swamped basically. If you're trying to get attention from a hot girl, you need to stand out.

My gf and I have been dating for a year, and met on OkC. As others have said, it gives you more "at-bats", and you literally get to 'search' for the type of person you want to meet.

Looking for a 6' tall Asian lawyer who is Christian and wants kids within 15 miles? Search for it. Know you don't want kids? Eliminate those immediately, no need to go on a couple real life dates before you can ask.

A lot of my girl and guy friends are turning to the net for dates. So far it doesn't seem like anyone has found a long term partner--just a lot of dates. No matter, I actually enjoy going on first dates (heh heh). I'll be registering when I "settle" down somewhere within the next couple of months. Edit: Ooooh full disclosure.. a few years back websites like Salon, Nerve, etc. shared some network of dating sites. I had gone on a couple dates off that thing... boy were they terrible. Hmm, maybe I should reconsider this "I enjoy going on first dates" statement i just made above.

I joined and only ended up giving them my money. I swear more than half the profiles are fake. No responses at all.

Me and my roommate were bored one day and decided to try it out and see if we could meet some cute girls..... after a couple dates that all went pretty bad (nice girls but one lied about her weight and was a solid 250, and the other one wore a unicorn shirt and had pigtails) I just said screw it and never signed on after that first week. I don't doubt the success rate but I would only use it as a last resort or if its hard for you to meet girls ( work too much, shy, etc)

I know a woman who is drop dead gorgeous that uses Match.com solely for the free dinners she gets out of first dates.

I noticed that on online dating websites, guys tend to post their worst looking pictures and girls tend to post their best looking pictures.

i used to think these sites were pathetic, but i guess if you work a lot and there is no one with potential there, it may be better than hoping for the best at a bar or club.

I dunno, I find the idea of artificially narrowing down your search by interests and love of greek condiments to be somewhat creepy compared to the real life organically working culling process sane people go through.

Can you search for girls that put out on the first date and like to be punched in the stomach?

Yeah but the problem for most guys who do match.com is being unable to approach someone in real life.

Interestingly enough I know pretty cute girls who tried online dating with totally bad results. They claimed most of the guys were weirdos, losers, creeps, etc. One chick met this seemingly sweet and nerdy hipster engineer guy who ended up physically abusing her.

But I've heard of couples who found each other and are happy now as well.

As opposed to the wonderful catch they had in real life dating? Do you know even one girl who doesn't have at least one bad experience with some weirdo who phones his mom after sex and got caught masturbating to vomit porn?

my friend has tried match, eharmony, etc, and met nothing but creeps or freaks thus far. i think it's more convenience than quality and probably safer (maybe?) than a single woman trolling bars for potential bf.
