Food suggestions for the following Italian Cities?

As a college graduation gift, my father and I are going on a roadtrip through Italy. I have never been, but I would like to make the best of it (i.e. drink the best wine and eat the best food...wouldn't hurt to see the most beautiful women, either).

I will spend time in the following cities:
Lugano, Switzerland (1 days, 2 nights)
Venice (1 day, 2 nights)
Florence (2 days, 3 nights)
Sorrento (1 day, 2 nights)
Rome (2 days, 3 nights)

Does anyone have any specific suggestions of where one should eat within these cities?

I spent 4-5 days in Rome back in November. It was a marvelous time, my girlfriend lived there for 5 months so I had her take me around after she did the due dilligence for restaurants.

Also, an interesting article with great suggestions:

My suggestions:

have lunch or dinner in the jewish ghetto. I forgot the name of the place I went (it's on a card at home, I'm at work now), but it was excellent and very fairly priced. The artichokes are a staple.

And for pizza, Pizza ai Marmi on Via Trastevere is stunning. It's full of Italians (note: not tourists) and there's 3-4 guys constantly churning out pizza after pizza with the fresh dough next to the brick oven which is right out in the open for people to see. You'll see table after table of pizzas and countless bottles of Pierroni beer (IMO the perfect combination). After, take a walk through the Trastevere neighborhood (my gf lived in Trastevere, it's wonderful).

For gelato: a place called San Crispino which is not too far from the Pantheon has the best. I sampled at least 8-9 different gelato places while in Italy, and San Crispino is just a notch above the rest.

Have a great time!!

I've only eaten at a couple places I can remember, since most of the time I'm just wandering about looking for a place that looks good. But, I swear the best pizza I've ever had in Rome comes from the Pizzeria inside the Vatican Museums. Its really, really good. Also, that one, kinda famous restaurant on the Campo de Fiori? Can't remember the name, but its very good. I've eaten at several great places in Florence, but I can't remember any names or directions to tell you. Food there is generally good if you stay away from tourist traps. That goes for the whole country though.

For the most part the food is wonderful in Italy. I'm sure all these suggstions are good. I found that w/ limited time (and especially if you don't know the city), you can go crazy trying to track down a recommended place. It's best to avoid obvious tourist spots (e.g. the large outdoor cafes on the big piazzas; places where menu is written in 5 languages, etc.)

This advice is worth its weight in gold, and goes double for Venice.
