with people who insist on being called by their middle names instead of their first names?

example:

N. Glen Huckleberry

this makes my work in the office a real PITA. not to mention it's a real sight for sore eyes on excel spreadsheets.

First name: N
Last name: Huckleberry

Also, you sound more like an important author or scholar when you reduce your first name to an initial.

Why do some Thomases go by Tommy? Or nicknames? Or Alternate spellings of otherwise common names? They or their parents thought it was interesting. I'd call you Lord Rototiller if you insisted on being called that. Maybe their name is Nalabenibloalaphasagoso, which would be more work for ya than just typing N.

In my experience, if they're a Jr., it was usually done to prevent confusion with the Sr. when growing up. I guess when they have kids with the same name, the kid will go by the first name.

One of my co-workers does this... I've worked with him for upwards of three years... Only found out last week, when he was calling for information on his cell, and they repeatedly called him by his first name. Odd... but... live and let live!
