The origins.

Why are fur coats and rather flamboyant clothing always associated with pimps? Also the idea of walking sticks seems to have changed from an accessory for a dandy to a pimp prop. I do not know how this has happened, and the pimp costume to me seems rather foppish if toned down a bit. What is the forum's opinions?

From what I've seen in documentaries, it seems as though being a dandy is part of being a pimp. The image of wealth, which is an expression of power, influence and protection, is essential to the role of pimps in the street game. It's really all they have going for them - along with a seemingly complete lack of morals or integrity. My point is, I don't think being a pimp and being a dandy are mutually exclusive. Simply put, pimps co-opted these symbols of wealth. Of course, they need to be taken in context: were I to see a Russian diplomat in a fur coat or a hiker with a walking stick, I would not assume they were pimps.
