Cooling down a small room?

I am sleeping temporarily in a very small room with a single window. I want to cool it down with the summer approaching but putting in an Air Conditioner is overkill given the size of the room. Can anyone recommend a good fan or other device (on the smaller side) that can efficiently cool a tiny room? Perhaps someone has experience from a dorm room situation?

Can also keep beer cold although I would do a closed circuit system with a pump and swap in a better radiator for the tubing.

Thanks for the information. This looks completely doable unfortunately it will take up too much room.

If you don't want to try your hand at HVAC, you can go with a Honeywill window fan (around 40 bucks on Amazon).

I didnt find the link in my very quick google but I have seen an updated version of this that was more compact. The guy used a cooler filled with ice/water (if you use saltwater ice, you can improve the cooling) with an aqarium pump inside that pumped out to a fan with a coil on both sides. The whole thing is pretty compact and as long as the hose runs are not too long, you can stash the cooler underneath something and put the fan in a good spot...

I have thought about doing an open-circuit system fed from tap water since we don't pay for usage in chicago and our tap water is reasonablhy cold but the idea of wasting all of that water didnt sound so good.

can't you just get a small window a/c for like $100

This stuff seems like a lot of work and takes up a lot of space.

I feel that the window AC is just overkill for that small of a room.

I will look into the Honeywell window fan. Anyone have any similar recommendations?

Pretty much just buy a fan then...yes, some are better than others but my $9.99 walgreens fan (it is square, a little over a foot on the side) that I bought for my dorm room 4 years ago is still alive and kicking.

Living in the Bay Area, lots of older homes don't have AC installed, so for the occasional heat wave, my friend rolls out a swamp cooler to cool his bedroom. He got it for less a few years ago at Costco.

Swamp coolers are great in desert regions and places were humidity is low. But they don't work well in places were the air is literally soaked with moisture.
