Moving to the Dallas area - Page 4

The poster who said snow, yeah like once every 40 years! With Dallas weather think extremes, in august it's like 103 all the time, highest I remember is mid august about three years back saw 118 on the car temp gauge. Thunderstorms are great, oh and be careful of ice storms.

Good luck with your move it's a great city.

Yeah I picked a hell of a time to purge t-shirts from my wardrobe. I thought I was heading to Vancouver!

Dallas, the NYC of Texas (but only to Dallas-snobs).

Houston ftw

As far as living --> Check out Austin Ranch - http://www.austinranch.com/index.html and there are plenty of well priced apartments around the Dallas North Tollway, George Bush Turnpike and Midway Rd. area. All a very very short drive from LTC. Food --> There is tons of good eating around, especially off of the Tollway Bars --> I agree with the people that say Addison is a hotspot for D-bags, but you will run into them at every bar around town. Flying Saucer is probably my favorite in Addison, but only serves beer and wine, so not too many women in there. If you let me know if you like more the pub, bar or club atmosphere I can try to give you more specific places to go. If you need more specific advice feel free to PM. I have lived here (North Dallas Suburbs) for 20 years.

Houston ftw /QUOTE]

Though I still sing Carrie Rodrigues' 'Get Me Back to Austin' along with steve Earle's "Home to Houston'. Work takes me to the RGV and Dallas a bit, now, so both are starting to grow on me.

A huge Asian supermarket on Josey Lane just north of the George Bush Turnpike. They have a large selection of many items... from seafood, to vegetables to teas... and tons of Asian food products.

The Hong Kong Restaurant about 4 doors down has great dim sum.. I've known Andy and his family (the owners) for quite some time. Very fresh.. quality.

There is a large Asian grocery store on Legacy Dr. near Central Expressway. If you live at Legacy Town Center, it's probably 4-5 miles away.

Oh thank god, you have made me a happy happy man.

Not sure. The one on Legacy is Chinese I think, but I could be wrong. I've never been inside, just seen it from the street.

There are large Chinese and Indian populations in Plano.

EDIT: Here's an article about it, including a discussion of the market (owned by a guy from Taiwan):

Brilliant, I won't be completely out of sorts. They even have a bakery! Hopefully their pork buns don't suck (who am I kidding, I can't even find good pork buns in NYC that haven't been made by David Chang)
