Ok so I have curly hair kind of shortish and all is good untill it gets to the sides where its like extra poofy and in pictures you can see like patches of skin through the curls. I was wondering if it would be weird to get them kind of straightened? Is that normal?

Buy yourself a good brush (like a Mason Pearson) and a straight iron. Makes my wavy hair more manageable and I can choose how wavy or straight it is.

Straight ironing is harsh on your hair, but chemically straightening will really fry it. Just get a small straightener and then pull the hair to the straightness level you want. Do it dry, and use some sort of oil protectant. Takes 5 minutes for me and I do it if I go out to the club or whatever.

I use this: http://www.folica.com/Solia_Tourmalin_d1690.html

Will a hair straightner work on hair that is 2-3 inches long?

Yes. But results will vary. If your hair is especially thick and REALLY curly, then you might have a prob. Either way, you should try it out and see how you like it. Having hair that you think looks good is worth the investment.
