CityConnection,

Thank you for making this thread! I have read a lot of it and have learned a lot.

I'm in the market for some new glasses, and currently looking at the Orgreen line which are $600 CAD for the frames alone.

They're quoting me around $400 for Nikon D3 (?) lenses, ~$550 for Nikon D4 (?) "digital" (which is supposed to help peripheral vision?) and ~$375 for ones which have the bottom with a little higher power but still single vision.

I'm lost with lenses in general.

Do you think this is a reasonable price altogether?

Thanks again!

There aren't really any "brands". Most of them are off-shore manufactured ones. Personally I find that Nikon has good ones. But when looking for them I find that the ones with a bit of texture work the best. The smooth ones usually just smudge even more.

The best way to clean it is with warm water and dishwasher soap. Dry it with regular white kitchen paper towel.

I wouldn't use a paper towel on lenses.

What cleans it the best I've found is a microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol/deionized water 1:1 or stoners glass cleaner.

That's about normal for Orgreen.

What is your prescription and how often do you wear your glasses?

I use paper towel on TONS of lenses and it works the best. I use it day in day out and so does every other optical or lab. Any busy surfacing lab will use lint-free tissue OR paper towel. It doesn't have as much lint as kleenex.

The problem with using a microfiber with those liquid cleaners is: you don't actually remove any dirt or debris. When you start wiping with the microfiber you are essentially rubbing the dirt into the lenses which may cause scratching OR make the coating craze over time.

Sup guys.

I'm looking to purchase som SHURONs. Unfortunately, after contacting their main site, there are no authorized dealers near where I live. The main site sells them for $110 shipped ; while another site sells for $85 shipped.

I just have a question about the sizing. I have 2 frames that I wear: one is 52-14-145, and the other is 52-17-145.

What size should I get for the new ones? I'm not sure whetehr to get the 48-22 or the 50-20.

Thanks.

-3.50 both eyes, OS has Cylinder -0.5 and Axis 160. And the doc wrote +0.75 for both eyes (which is a new column for me).

I wear my glasses everyday.

are the 52-14 plastic? Are the 52-17 metal? Depends if they are plastic or metal. It also depends on how they fit.

The 48-22 will probably look a bit off because the lens size is significantly smaller. But again, depends on what kinds of frames you are comparing.

You're script is relatively mild. Shouldn't have a problem with 1.56 or 1.6. The +0.75 is now for you're reading add. I'll take a wild guess and say that you are roughly 40 yrs old, which is normal to have an add power. You may find that getting a pair of "reading glasses"

might even be good for when you are reading at night in bed. I would say not to invest too much money into the lenses just yet, as you will be stepping into the progressives soon (like it or not).

The doc said my prescription really hasn't changed a whole lot since the last time I went in for an exam 4 years ago. I just need a new look, the current glasses make me look a few years too young.

All in all the range for a pair of orgreens will total around $900-1100 CAD depending on what lenses I choose. There is also a Mykita showing next week at a local eyewear place (not the same place where I tried the Orgreens and got the quote). I may take a look at their line before I decide.

Do you say the quality between Orgreen and Mykita are roughly equivalent?

Nice glasses and cololorway. I actually just purchased a pair of Oliver Peoples myself and picked them up from the Optometrist the other day.

I had been a die hard transitions lens kinda guy but not any more. My new pair of specs is the OP Deacon model with translucent grey-ish frame and I put in the slightest pink tint with harmful ray protection. I am really loving them. I know the frame has been around a while but the finish of these is like nothing I had seen anywhere else and I have had my eye on these frames for a year at least. Pardon the pun.
