I'm going to order an eyeglasses from framesdirect. The frame is Persol 2425V ($235) with 1.67 index lens ($119) from Essilor and Transitions coating ($70) and Premium AR coating ($75). After 30% discount for lens, total price is around $424.
Do you think the price is reasonable?
And I'm curious about the effectiveness of Transitions coating. What's your opinion on that?
The overall price is reasonable. Frames direct is competitive on name brand frames. They are owned by Essilor.
A couple of questions and comments:
Do you need 1.67 lenses? Generally speaking, you would only go with this material if you have a stronger prescription, say below -4.00 or above +3.00.
AR is a must have however consumers get ripped off paying $75...but that is the way it is.
Transitions is not a coating. It is part of the lens. Transitions, like all photochromic lenses, needs UV rays to be activated so it will not work in your car. You can get a cheap pair of Rx tinted lenses from another website that you can wear while driving.
