Ask me about Eyewear! - Page 149

I have a wedding coming up in a few months and one of the nose pads on my glasses just snapped off. They're perfectly wearable and unless you're looking for it probably wouldn't catch that it's missing.

I'm not up for another frame/lens allowance on my vision insurance until two weeks after the wedding date. I was thinking of getting a secondary vision plan to cover the frames/lenses of the new pair I'll be needing to purchase. Having two plans shouldn't be an issue right?

I'm not sure that you give advice on vision plans but any input/advice would be appreciated. Currently with TSP and will likely seek something comparable.

Dear TS,

need your help on the following. I am considering buying these Persols

http://www.persol.com/international/collections/sun/suprema/PO3027S/964-86

I am looking for shades that are 1) wayfarer styled (owned a RB2140 but lens quality was bad) , 2) polarized and 3) lens made out of glass instead of plastics.

The Persol vocabulary is really confusing, i.e. does ''polar green" mean that the lens is polarized? And is a "chrystal" lens made out of glass instead of polycarbonate?

Persol does not have a customerservice contact on anything to which I can direct my questions... :-(

Love to hear from you.

The problem is not a frame that can fit glass lenses, the problem is finding someone who will do glass lenses for you. There are very few dispensers that still do glass. Most new machines don't even cut glass lenses. Glass lenses can fit into any frame. The eyewires and mounting is all the same. It is a matter of finding someone who will do glass for you.

Also, I won't be looking to spend too much.

Also, I did some lurking but what's the difference between polarized and UVA/UVB protection?

A cool wayfarer-esque frame that just launched is the Carrera frame. I can't recall the model number but it is a remake of their vintage style as well and it is priced pretty well.

Polarized and UV protection is completely different. Polarization cuts out unwanted glare. UV protection is just that, protection against UV. Keep in mind that not all sunglasses lenses are created equally.

I don't know what frame they are, but Kio Yamato has a few that look similar to that with the traditional Japanese engraving and trims.

If it is only the nose pad, that is a 2min fix. If it is a pad arm, it may still be able to be replaced and soldered. If it is broken, please do not wear it broken. You might not be able to tell it from certain angle, but some people looking at you will know that you look like a tool (no offense).

I'm not 100% sure about vision coverage because each vision plan is different.

TIP: Buy your glasses on your VISA GOLD OR PLATINUM. If you read the fine print, if you buy something on your VISA and it breaks, VISA has insurance against it and will cover the cost of a replacement within a year. Find out from your Credit Card supplier. Best way to stay "covered" all the time. But you didn't hear it from me.

I don't know much about their lingo but Polar Green probably means polarized with a grey-green tint (Which is the same as 75% of the other grey lenses, lame advertising IMHO). I could be wrong, but I would bet that Chrystal means that it is trivex or soemthing and not poly. I don't know if they still make glass lenses. If it is indeed glass lenses, that is great because vision is superior in glass lenses.

That is a pretty fun pair. I would suggest to go to some stores with vintage frames. You can find some vintage frames in all sorts of qualities and prices that look like that. You could probably pick some up for a decent price.

To anyone with dita frames. Can you please post the width measurement? Australian retailers only stock their lame styles. I'm specifically after lever 49's but I'm sure all eye-wear aficionados would appreciate the info. One must know the width!

Cheers

hey man. I'm looking for a pair of professional and simple black semi-rimless glasses. I don't really care about the price, but I want the rim and arms to be on the thin side. I have a massive head, so I'll need something pretty wide. I live in ny, so i'm guess i'll have access to anything. Thanks!

What shape of glasses would be recommended for someone with a narrow-ish head?
Hi guys, was wondering if anyone can recommend a pair of glasses similar to these http://www.eyefly.com/men/alexanderplatz-1.html . I know they're pretty cheap already but I'm trying to go cheaper as I always end up losing/breaking my glasses when I go out in uni. Somewhere that ships to UK is preferable but I can settle for US. Already checked zennioptical, eyebuydirect and goggles4u.
Thanks!

Anyone familiar with a frame something like this, but that lists for far lower than the $675 this one (Thom Browne) lists for?

Does anybody know which DITA model is the Thom Browne x DITA style 018 based on?

http://www.aloharag.com/eng/thom-browne-tb-018-d-t-blk-tb-018-m-black.html

Not willing to pay the extra price just because it's TB :|

Thanks guys!
