I'm tempted to set up a Pepsi Challenge with real Coke vs the generic "Big K" (Kroger brand) cola I've been buying lately. I'm not saying it's better or tastes exactly the same, but it's definitely close enough for government work. For $2.50 a 12 pack I'm a fan.
I can't taste much of a difference between HFCS and Mexican Coke. I would say the mouth feel is a little different. The only Coke i've had that tastes different is Kosher, a much different taste,after-taste, and mouth feel than 'regular' coke.
I've done a 'which is which' test with coke and pepsi and its pretty hard. You taste the first one and are sure its Pepsi, clear your palette and then try the next one and are sure its Coke... then you go again and have no clue which it is.
I used to chug down Sams Choice Cola as it was 3$ for a 24 pack but anymore its just too carbonated, not enough syrup IMO.
I occasionally will leave a soda in my cup holder to get hot (and lose some carbonation) and then pour it over ice. It makes the soda much thicker and gives it a much smoother mouth feel IMO.
So, its established we all enjoy Mexican Coke. Has anyone else tried any non coke/pepsi brands? Any regional brands, or specialty colas?
I know they exist as I've tried Moxie, and some other harder to find colas but want to find more. I know some of you guys have tried them, fill me in!
