I can pay you no greater compliment than to run out and buy a pair for myself, which is what I just did courtesy of eBay wink.gif

We're writing to let you know about a change to your PayPal account.

Starting 10/12/2011, money from payments you receive will be placed in a pending balance for up to 21 days. By doing this, we're making sure that there's enough money in your account to cover potential refunds or claims.

Even though you can't access the money right away, please ship orders quickly and communicate with your customers. After 21 days, you can withdraw money from each payment as long as the customer hasn't filed a dispute, chargeback, claim, return, or reversal.
The money may be available sooner if:

1. We can confirm that the item was delivered.
2. Your buyer leaves positive feedback. (Applies only to eBay items)

This change isn't necessarily permanent. We'll review your account every 35 days and re-evaluate if we should continue to hold your payments. If we decide to stop holding payments, we'll email you to let you know.

Why are my payments being held?
We reviewed your account and determined that there's a relatively higher than average risk of future transaction issues (such as claims, or chargebacks, or payment reversals). We understand that it may be inconvenient to have your payments temporarily held but please know that we didn't make this decision lightly.

Before deciding to hold payments, we consider many factors. These factors include account and transaction activity, the rate of customer disputes, the type of business a seller runs, average delivery timeframes, customer satisfaction, performance and history.

Sorry, about hijacking this thread again but wow, wtf? Why did they do this to MY account? I think I will try out Amazon. This is not cool.

I received exactly the same "letter" the other day. I was gobsmacked to be honest - I knew PayPal sucked hard but I didn't realise quite how much. The idea that they can just hold money for 21 days makes me sick. Fuckers.

^They did that to me years ago. Never had any issues eventually getting the money, but it was a bit...unsettling.

I received the same deal, but it said it was until I "establish a positive sales history with Ebay", so I thought it was some lame form of standard operating procedure. I do only have 7 or 8 sales under my belt, by they didn't implement this until about 10 days ago.

I don't know, it's just weird they'd do that to me.
I mean, I only ever have like $100 in there from selling.

I think that group buy I set up alarmed them.
Man, receiving $50 in a day is suspicious huh? confused.gif

Well, it's good to hear it eventually works out.
I'm definitely trying out Amazon though.

I bought something on ebay today and the seller got the same letter and now refuses to ship due to the funds being frozen. So this is screwing buyers as much as sellers.

this is nothing new and they do it to casual sellers or people with low DSR/low FB scores or history of disputes. Amazon has been doing it for years on high ticket/restricted items.

This is another strike for ebay trying to take out the small business owners/ mom and pop hobby sellers in favor of being more like rakuten or amazon.

this is why I always just mark it as being for a good/service and use a credit card. If the seller is desperate to avoid the fees, I will add the 3% or whatever to my payment but a high volume seller should just be factoring that into their prices.

Marking it as a purchase gives you buyer protection and using a CC gives you another layer of protection. Paypal is providing a service after all...doesn't seem unreasonable that they should be paid for it.

Doesn't seem strange to me at all that you would have to jump through hoops to do this...since what you are doing is explicitly against the rules.
