Fucker didn't even bother to knock, just left a "we missed you" sticker on the door even though all the damn lights were on in the house and someone was obviously home.  To top it off, he didn't indicate what the next action was - I had to look online to see that the package required a signature.

Called UPS to leave a complaint, it's annoying as hell to have to sign for packages anyway and doubly irritating when your deliveryman's an idiot.  Signed the sticker with an authorization to leave the package on the doorstep.  Next time I'll just stick with RL, no fucking around with signatures or dickhead delivery people.

TL,DR:  Fuck UPS and fuck Mr Porter.

My ups driver does this all the time, even with packages with as little value of $20. I always try to use FedEx or usps

Yeah, problem with Porter is it looks like they use UPS and they always require a signature.  To make matters worse, apparently you can't waive the signature before it's due to be delivered - I tried to do it online on UPS's site but that option's disabled at the request of the sender.  Just a word of warning for folks thinking about Porter.

I saw that the same jacket was included in the Now-public Private Sale, for about $5-6 less than Porter.  However, since Porter's online only and charges no taxes/shipping, I saved on costs that would have made RL's slightly more expensive than Porter's.

Can't decide if it's crazy to take the tax and shipping hit if it means I won't have to worry about this kind of bullshit.  I'm kind of ok with paying a premium for ease of mind.

There's a shipping setting on Mr Porter to not require a signature.
I ordered that winged piston varsity from Mr Porter. It was the same 30% off as at Ralph site but I also saved 9.5% state sales tax.

If you have an amex card, sign up for free ShopRunner.
Most stuffs I've ordered form Ralph lately has been shipped FedEx overnight using ShopRunner.

Thanks, I'll be sure to look for the non-sig option if/when I order from Porter in the future.  As it stands right now, I'm contemplating cancelling the order and getting the jacket from RL, I think I can make back most of the shipping/tax if I go through ebates.

I do have an Amex, I'll be sure to check out Shoprunner, thanks for the tip.

Oh yeah, Mr Porter doesn't support shopping referrals on their mobile site.

No worries, I called UPS and was told I absolutely had to be there to sign, I can't waive it off.  Fuck that noise, so I just told UPS to stop delivery, ship it back to Porter and told Porter to cancel the order.

Then I went through Ebates to RL and ordered the Cowboy Selvedge Denim jacket instead of the Roper.  With free shipping and the Ebates 8% cashback the total's going to be even cheaper than the Porter buy, so i'll come out ahead.

I just hope the Cowboy jacket isn't too big in a large.  It looks a bit boxy but it's a different style than the Roper, which makes it interesting.

Such patience you have.  I cant stand waiting so much that I all but eliminated international purchases.  It doesnt help that I live in a gated community where if u arent there for delivery you are SOL

It helps that I know I don't really need any of this stuff at this point, so if it works out, cool, if not, it goes back, and I can be as patient as I need to be.  Clothing and RRL in particular are my only real splurge purchases.  Otherwise I'm pretty frugal.

The thing that really irks me about this situation is that UPS is full of shit.  It's not rocket science to see that when all the lights are on, someone's home, just knock on the damn door a few times.

Anyway, I've bitched enough, so I'll leave this here to make up for it:  https://www.instagram.com/olicongress/  Dude has a sick collection of RRL and styles it pretty well.

It happens. I work out of my home and am usually around to sign for packages. One day I found a "Missed you" note in the mailbox, but no one had come to the door. And believe me, my lunatic dogs always let me know when someone is one the stoop. My guess is some overworked delivery person was running late and cut some corners. Probably the same thing that happened with your delivery.

I know the feeling but there's no sense in getting bent out of shape.

This is hilarious—just as I was about to post this a UPS guy came to the door with a package from Mr. Porter!

Thanks for the instagram—sweet!

And for reminding us that this is all gravy. We're lucky to be able buy clothes we probably don't need when many people in this world would be happy to own any kind of warm jacket or pair of shoes.

I do feel like an asshole when I'm dropping hundreds or even up to a grand on threads when some people in the world will barely make that much in their lifetimes.

On the other hand, life is short.  There's no reason you shouldn't enjoy the things you truly love, and if RRL or any other brand happens to be that, and you can afford it, there's no need to deprive yourself.  It just helps to have perspective.

Well said. When it comes to human foibles, being a clothes horse isn't as nearly as destructive as some pursuits. As humans we're attached to many, many things, including people and ideas. Pick your poison.

I have experienced something akin to the "asshole effect", usually when I purchase a jacket that costs more than I would have spent on a car back in 1970's. ;)  Or when my wife asks, "How many denim jackets can one man own?"

As one who embraces Buddhism I strive for mindfulness and compassion for all beings. Of course I inevitably fall short but the small rewards make the journey worthwhile.

OK fine, but I am pretty sure it will pop up again somehow depending on returns and store inventory. You should request for them to put you on a wait list and honor a locked price for what you paid on that day. It's only right! They have a notes system and they can also alter pricing with a click of a button into anything they want. Don't take NO for an answer. If you do, i'm guessing you really don't want that item.

facing a similar situation with fedex right now... ordered something online that requires you to be home and sign even though i checked the box saying they could just leave it at the door. apparently the shipper isnt allowing that so now after a few days they're holding it at the local pick up spot. whats the point of even giving me that option if it wasn't there in the first place? so now i gotta go pick up my item from them within 5 days or they just return it. pretty big damn inconvenience.

I would love to punch the guy who think thats a good thing in the face.  I know they are trying to avoid scams and lost packages but thats part of the game and shouldnt make online buying anymore difficult.  Its already a hassle when sizing with most not even taking the time to measure the shit they sell.    I mean u are selling online so why wouldnt u provide that.  The worst is when they use some universal sizing system  where they have the balls to give u hat measurements perfectly but skim on tops and bottoms.   GGEFSGHDUGKUYEGKUYGKWHECGKYG
