I went for it.

It's too bad sizing gets so hard at large sizes since halves don't exist and there are fewer options. Hopefully these will work!

Glad you went for it. I'm actually in the exact same situation as you - I wear a size 14 in everything except I can get away with a 13 in converse - and the Washington's in a 13 fit perfectly. So good in fact that I'm wondering if all the boots are sized this way?

really? why??? the rrl one (not officer's with longer length and oxidized buttons) is a repro and same price as billy reid... other than the fad of having what bond wore in movie, whats better? leather collar trim and slimmer lapel? i like the rrl's huge dracula looking collar to block wind and the bond one looks much thinner than the rrl one but never saw the bond one in person so i can only judge based on pics

Material felt a lot better on the Billy Reid one compared to RRL officers as poster said Gold buttons and price would be a little more on sale. Design wise I think the one you have is best.

Interesting. Which thread was it and did they mention the Marshall's location? If in NY I'll pop in and have a browse.

Somebody buy these before I do. I've been looking for a cheap pair 28/29x30 one wash slim fits for months. These are so close but I know they'd be too big after stretching.

How do you like the billy reid coat - i've never seen it, any comments on the fabric? I'm personally not a fan of the small collar with the peak.

The RRL officers is definitely not worth the $1200 (i don't think i would buy any peacoat for that price), but it is a nice coat and on sale is a great piece, with a great fit and a much more refined fabric than the repros. I've tried on the RRL peacoat ($690) and also buzz ricksons at $1000+ but these are just too thick and rough which while i understand are supposed to be true to heritage but too much for me and probably the average person.

How is the Buzz Rickson rough? It is heavy, but still very comfortable.

Perhaps by workwear standards, yes, it is standard fare (RRL is workwear/heritage/vintage inspired I suppose). I personally prefer much more refined fabrics than repros but that's personal.

I'm in Braintree...what Marshall's are you referring to?  Was there anything in size 33-34 waist?  Shirts?

A heads up for anyone that may have purchased the Powell chukkas or the Washington boots. Since they look like they are similar construction and use the same manufacturer. Today I received the RRL Powell chukkas. Nice looking shoes, kind of unique, great leather. They fit well and I really like them. I would probably keep them except I noticed one of them makes a clicking noise as I walk. Turns out that when I flex the sole in a twisting motion that causes the noise. I believe they have a steel shank and it is loose. Hopefully no one else has this issue.

Hasn't arrived yet, should be great from what I've heard though. Only thing I don't like about it is that it's un-lined....

I'm a fan of the old and new. As much as I like the modern style billy reid I like the old repro' buzz rickson/toys mccoy and the old rrl's. They both have their place

Heads-up, even though it may be to late since the A2 is sold out...but this thing does run small. I have a L in every other RRL jacket and coat (including the suede A1). It fits small in the shoulders and to short in the sleeves....a real drag since most of you here have read how much I looked forward to this one. baldy[1].gif

I actually looked twice to check the size and wife thought the moment I took jacket out of suit bag it would be to small. Since the length is right I wonder if the XL would look sloppy. The leather is actually stiffer then expected and would have been fun breaking in! facepalm.gif
