Thx!!!

That's 3 places already. How many do you need? Barneys carreis them too. Apart from Ebay, however, there is no place where you can click-and-buy from. Ralph Lauren rules prohibit this.

anyone seen the low straight with blue line selvedge and without the "made of japanese denim" on the inside pocket

has anyone heard of these?

does RRL make a red line "japanese denim" and non japanese denim version?

I checked my local BM store and came across them if RRL is phasing out the more prestigious japanese denim in favor of some run of the mill stuff to save some $$$, i'm going to be REALLY disappointed. Should have stocked up when i had the chance. LS is my fav cut.

I'm not following your logic at all. 1) Are you saying that because they aren't stamped "Japanese denim" that they're aren't made of Japanese denim? 2) RRL uses different kinds of selvage denim. It's not uniform across the board. 3) Why is Japanese denim "more prestigious?" 4) Aside from where some clothing articles are manufactured, nothing RRL does is to save money. In fact, there are numerous things they do and have done to actually increase the price. 5) Do I still exist now?

1. Yes, I doubt at this point RRL would stamp "MADE OF THE FINEST JAPANESE DENIM" then suddenly stop doing so unless they went with a lower grade denim that wasn't made in Japan (chinese denim - similar to prl selvedge denim is a possibility!) I also do not see why they would reduce the retail price point on these models unless the denim was changed or altered in a significant (lower quality) way.

2. All their denim seems to point to being Japan made unless stated otherwise, or not stated at all..which is what i'm still trying to get to the bottom of.

3. Is this the part where you bore me with hearsay evidence about how Japanese denim is in no way superior to denim produced in other countries? Spare me the boredom.

4. Are you an RRL rep or affiliated with RRL or Ralph Lauren in ANY WAY? I didn't think so, please do not speculate on what they do or do not do to reduce production costs. Beyond your occasional outing to an RRL store and your failed attempts to strike up a scintillating and meaningful conversation with the sales clerks, you are as clueless as the rest of us.

5. You're like that little turd that won't flush down the toilet.

well if you recall they used to produce their jeans 100% in Japan. Now they're being made here of Japan made denim soon I imagine they will be made here of chinese denim and in 10 years the line will be entirely made in china. I remember in the 90s polo was entirely made in the US so don't say that can't or won't happen with RRL it's only a matter of time.

You don't know RRL if you think they'd start using Chinese denim. Period. Could be that what you saw was American (as they have used American before) but I doubt it. Did you try seeing where the jeans were made? That would be a big indicator.

I'm not sure how it's hearsay that not all Japanese denim is equal. Look at what the Gap put out a few years ago with their Japanese selvage line that sold for under $100. I'd take White Oak Cone any day of the week over crap like that. You simply can't say Japan denim>everyone else because it simply isn't true not to mention that you look completely misinformed to the rest of us.

To add more lulz, even the Japanese don't revere their own denim the way outsiders do; it's no secret that Levi's, as well as made in US apparel/denim like Sugar Cane, is some of the most highly sought-after and expensive stuff over there.

I'm not sure what you think you have over my head or why you think that I've invented any kind of information. Talk with RRL managers, affiliates who carry the line, or RRL's rep and you would have just as much familiarity with the brand that I do.

Why wouldn't RRL source their material from china? If they're not American and they're *not* Japanese (as evident by the lack of "MADE OF THE FINEST *** SELVEDGE") then it's safe to assume the material could very well be from china just like what prl, rugby and all other RL labels use. It's been discussed numerous times that the world's best denim comes from Japan. Yeah you can try to compare ******, low grade gap *** denim to "white oak" to prove your point but given the track record, superior dye processes and dedication *** denim is still #1. I'm sure kiya can confirm this
wink.gif
.. or does he also look completely misinformed to the rest of you?? I can't wait till farinellis stocks some *** based labels then you'll change your tune quickly, won't you...hypebeast. And what does Levi's popularity in Japan have to do with anything? Just because they like ipods and other western made goods and are willing to pay $200 for $30 STF Levi's doesn't have any bearing on quality.. of course it's going to be sought after and more expensive it has to be imported and it's more exclusive. RRL jeans are like $350 for your $220 pairs. Of course, you think the average Japanese wears $300 premium denim jeans? They're all walking around in mainstream $20 Edwin jeans.. So again, you're point is moot. Ah.. Tooch4321, I was waiting for whodini's only bromo to show up and play white knight. Typical.

Okay, I hate to butt into this lovefest, but need to address some of the points here:

The "Made of the Finest Japanese Denim" was a marketing point. There's no governing body that determines what does or does not constitute the Finest Japanese Denim. And no one at RL said "****, we downgraded our denim. Now we've got to take out the 'Finest.'" I wouldn't draw to many conclusions based on the stamps on the inside of jeans.

Also pricing is related to, but not directly correlated with, cost of manufacture. Retail prices can rise or fall in response to market pressures (see the fairly obvious point in recent NYT Styles article), brand positioning, etc...

2. All their denim seems to point to being Japan made unless stated otherwise, or not stated at all..which is what i'm still trying to get to the bottom of.

That's just rude, but... one of the original members of this board has actually been with Ralph Lauren for a long time now, and he followed the RRL relaunch closely, I believe. If he wants to comment, he will.
