Comments on my decant order?

Having just noticed niche fragrances, I ordered some decants to see what I liked. Any comments about your experiences with my selections?

Here's the list:

Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche EDT
L'Artisan Mure et Musc Extreme
Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme
Issey Miyake Le Feu d'Issey
Creed Green Irish Tweed
Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur
Yves St. Laurent M7
Penhaligon's Castile
Creed Millesime Imperial
Hermes Terre D'Hermes
Giorgio Armani Black Code

No bites on the Bit's list? No one wears anything on the list?

I'd get rid of the Armani, Issey, D&G, and switch out the Creed Imperial and L'Artisan for other scents from those lines. Otherwise, a nice start.

I have YSL Rive Gauche (pour homme, which I assume is what you have). I don't much care for it myself as it is not my style; nothing wrong with it, though. My wife likes it, and she often wears mine. I like it on her.

You will like some and not others. Beyond that anything else I say is speculation, and may prejudice you into not liking some scents that are not bad...but not my taste.

GIT you will likely love at first swoon. TdH is likewise incredibly popular. Those will likely be your first two choices. And, give Musc Ravageur a few wearings before you cast the decant aside.

I agree on the parts to ditch.

I love Terre D'Hermes. It smells great when you have some sun sweat going on.
I do like Rive Gauche, Its good when its appropriate. I tried to wear it every day, but it is not good for every occasion.
For that I would go for Acqua Di Parma (I prefer the Colonia Intensa) but really any of them are great. They should be on your list.
There are a number of Floris scents I like, check them out.

I wouldn't consider many of those scents niche but there are a few good choices.

I quite enjoyed YSL Rive Gauche and it's flanker Rive Gauche Intense.

I have not tried Mure et Musc Extreme but the original Mure et Musc EDT is very nice although longevity it lacking.

FM Musc Ravageur is a great scent but disappears on my skin much like the rest of what I tried (l'Eau d'Hiver and Angeliques sous la pluie). In my experience, I have never opened up to FM's scents on the first sampling but give it a chance and you will very much enjoy it.

YSL M7 is insane. A very good oud scent that just never goes away. If the oud is overwhelming, there is YSL M7 Fresh which is a light version with hints of citrus. M7 seems to be a love or hate thing which not much inbetween.

I don't wear Hermes TdH too often. I enjoy the opening citrus but it very soon gets drowned out in a heavy woody cedar. I prefer Hermes Rocabar which is similar but has a less overwhelming woody note accompanied by a very nice sweet creamy base.

I cannot comment on the other scents since I have not tried them but I would be interested to know which scents you liked and which ones you disliked.

Any explanation as to why?

I'm completely new to this and just went through and picked scents people talked about. It seems that I have covered quite a few of the bases with my picks but am open to any suggestions.

I'm mainly looking for a edgy but professional daytime scent to be worn in summer at the office. I realise a couple are probably better for colder weather but summer doesn't last long in the PNW.

Thanks to everyone for their responses...I look forward to getting them in and trying them out. I don't know if I will be able to describe them well but I will give it a try.

As a primer, I tried to describe Polo to myself and got somewhat similiar to what basenote members wrote. I got the pine and musk right at least.

(...).

Well, as for me - I wore D&G Pour Homme until I realized that I hated the synthetic tobacco note. The other side of it is: everyone either wears it or has worn it, and has since moved on. The Armani and Issey aren't really edgy as best I can tell: they're pretty focus-group-driven scents iirc.

But just because they don't do it for me doesn't mean they aren't the right thing for you. Personal chemistry makes a difference.

Where do you get these at? I just figured everyone bought the big ass bottles of stuff and kept them forever. Id love to get little 1 oz bottles of different kinds to test out before I commit, this is the first Ive seen of it. Is it all ebay?

The Perfumed Court is a good place to start - a tad pricey for what you get, but it beats splashing out for a full bottle and hating it. ...although if you poke around basenotes.com, you'll find a tiny decant forum where a few members here and there will post their bottle collections and sell decants.

Thomas is spot on....Price ranges from 3 to 5 dollars on 1.5 ml decants.

There are a couple other places out there but TPC definately has the best selection from what I have found.

Aqua Di Gio, the one scent that gets me the most complements. The only problem, everyone else wears it.

I wouldn't bother with Le Feu d'Issey...if you like it, you may never find a whole bottle to buy (although it's excellent).

All the rest are fine. I'd switch Mure & Musc Extreme for the regular version (the Extreme leans more toward the sweeter, feminine side of things).
