How dark is the C & J chestnut? Would you wear it with a navy or charcoal suit or is it too light for that?

I'm thinking of getting the Belgraves and the Shoe Damage and WAYWRN photos don't help much. In some photos they look quite dark but in others they seem too light to wear with darker suits.

Malvern in chestnut:

Light enough to show a strong contrast with charcoal or navy, but quite wearable. I like it with both colors.

I have the C&J Belgrave in Chestnut and wear it with my Charcoal and Navy suits all the time. I think it looks great.

very similar to the Allen Edmonds Chili color, maybe a touch darker, if that gives you a frame of reference to see in person at a Nordstrom or other AE retailer

burnished chestnut westbourne vs chili weybridge (no flash)

with flash appears much more red

You can definitely wear them with a navy or charcoal suit. I wear lighter brown shoes with those color suits all the time. Perhaps I look funny, but no one seems to notice.

Actually I do that too even though there are certain rules out there that state that one's shoes should always be darker than the color of his trousers. I personally like the contrast although I must admit I would love to see more antiguing on C&J shoes in general.
