Has anyone done this yet?

Well I don't think I have "turned them off" but I have done without them for a week. I find I jones for email for a day or two but after that meh. I have to say getting by without a mobile when everyone else is using them requires a bit more planning but again after a few days you get over it.

I try to pick a vacation spot, at least once during each year, that simply has no cellphone coverage. Leaving the PC behind is easy, I just did it this week for four days. It's the electronic leash of the cell phone. But, if there's no service, there's no way work can bother me

I'm going to do mountaineering school on and a climb of Mt. Hood June 1-4, definitely will be unreachable throughout that. Just one of the many reasons why I like the mountains so much.

I'm going to do this with my computer. Don't think I could part with my cell.

I don't know if I could do this!

I guess I would have to if I were forced.

I could go without voice for more easily than without data for a week.

I've gone without for fair spans of time (more than a week for sure). My vacations involve being in the wilderness for long periods of time, thus I'm out of reach.

^^ Being poor is an accomplishment?

it wasn't poverty. just had moved, hadn't brought my tv and computer yet, and just didn't feel like having a cell phone

The best thing to turn off is the pager. It's like those fucking eyes in the current Gieco commercials. I sleep with the damn thing on the night stand every night of the year, except when I'm on vacation.
