Am I really short?

I am around 5'9". Is this abnormally short? People in the SF chat were making fun of me.

I don't think it's "really" short, but I do think it's a little below average. Interestingly enough, I have read some studies showing parents would rather their sons be almost anything but short. I mean, mild deformity was preferable to being very short, for male children!

Weird. I'm desperately average at 5'8" (might be slightly below in some places and age groups but not enough that it's outside of the normal curve) I don't think I would have turned very different if I had been 5'4" or 6' but a mild deformity would surely have affected me.

5'9" is pretty average (CDC says 5'9.5" is the U.S. average). Maybe fraction of an inch below average, but I certainly wouldn't say it's "short."

We need to have short kids removed from their parents and given chemo :P

Seriously, it's a good point on how parents can fuck you up. If they think your height (or lack there of) is worse than a mild deformity, what unconscious messages are parents sending their short sons?
